That is fantastic.

Have you given any thought to getting smokingpipes.com to carry your pipes?  I don't know what that would entail but it would sure give you a lot more exposure.

I do not smoke pipes, but I have always enjoyed well-built things that most people couldn't care less about such as leathercrafts, revolver grips, handmade knives, and also pipes.  There is something in the design as well as the process of creating a pipe that my psyche finds very soothing.  Over the past week I started seriously considering taking a swing at making a pipe as a hobby project as soon as I get a nightmare of a bathroom remodel completed.  I'd spent several hours combing YouTube videos and pipe websites before I remembered the Humidor forum on here and figured I should see what's on here.  The depth and breadth of knowledge on this site never fails to amaze me.  Thanks for the inspiration.  As I tend to want to run long before I can stand, let alone walk, I've been wanting to start out with a combination of a morta bowl and a bamboo shank.

DK, I just found this thread and looked up your web-site.  I really like pipe # 68, how do I go about getting it?

Finally, there is this one.  This is obviously quite different-looking from anything else I have made, and the difference is that it is made from Olive wood, not briar.  I tried olive wood once before, but fucked up the drilling, so this is the first successful Olive wood pipe.  One nice thing about working with Olive wood is that it smells REALLY nice when you drill it and cut it.

Unfortunately, I am not super-happy with this one, because
(a) I drilled the mortise a TINY bit off from where I wanted it, so the stem is not perfectly lined up with the shank
(b) the fit between shank and stem is also not as tight as I would prefer
So this one kind of counts as a "failure" for me.

Ultimately, I need to find a way to work all of this out (and it may involve a lathe) - but I have still not figured it out.

Anyway, I decided to post it anyway, because the wood looks very nice.  There is no stain/dye on it; this is simply the smoothly sanded Olive wood that has been polished with carnauba wax

So, what issues come up from smoking an olive wood pipe? does it imbue some sort of smell/taste that interacts badly with tobacco? Does the wood burn easier?

Here's one I finished this weekend.  I personally LOVE this pipe, and used a pretty large and very nice piece of briar for it.  It's similar to a morta pipe I made a while ago, and I have been meaning to do one in briar.

It's a very wide pipe, and the bowl is big (1" diameter) but somewhat shallow.

How difficult is olive wood to shape?  My parents have an olive wood nativity scene that is ridiculously hard.  You'd swear it was stone if you had your eyes closed.  I would think it would wear out tools very fast.

Your pipes keep getting better all the time.

I will DEFINITELY be making more of precisely that model.

It is very popular, so it is by far the model I have made most of... meaning that I’m actually getting pretty good at making them.    The Cola Warrior winner had good taste, and picked one of those.

I have this one from the Prof and love it. I had it out shooting sporting clays last weekend and I shot the best I have in years. Coincidence?

To my mind, that kind of pipe is perfect to smoke.  You don't have to worry about any burn-through ever, and it's so solid that you can drop it and not worry about anything.

I don't want to be "that guy" but maybe your time would be better spent churning out a few more of these beauties rather than spending any precious time posting online.

Just kidding. (sort of ) I really enjoyed my evenings this past weekend trying out your creations. Smooth and perfect. I intend to give some out to like minded friends for gifts when they come available. Well done.

I was expecting something with a goose and a chest of drawers.

Right now I'm on a cigar binge, but may have to spring a Grant to liberate such a pipe from you.

Good shit!!

ETA: found that web site. Will deal with it appropriately. Still think that it is majorly cool.
