Anyone ever hear of this?

I was in Hot Springs, Arkansas a couple of days ago and bought some cigars at a cigar shop downtown. The lady offered me a small bag of dark chocolate chips, she called it bitter choclate but I think they were just semi sweete chocolate chips.  Anyway, she said that if you eat  a couple of these about halfway through your cigar it opens your palate back up to taste more of the cigars flavors.

I tried it and it really works.

These, Scotch works nicely as well.   Also, with the right cigar chew a small piece of mint.

sadly, I hate chocolate (even the smell), probably from being horribly allergic as a kid (so was forced to have Carob instead).

Zino Davidoff in his book recommends citrus to open, and also clear the palate. I have found OJ  to work quite well for this. Also, if you brush you teeth, and more importantly, your tongue (using just warm water, no toothpaste) after smoking, then have a glass of OJ, it clears out any residual from the last cigar, and you are all cleared with an open, "blank slate" palate for the next one (obviously this would also be done again after eating, smoking a cigarette, or drinking anything strong flavored, right before you light up your next cigar.

I believe chocolate, and possibly some other methods were also mentioned, but  don't recall for sure, as neither chocolate or almonds (or any nuts) are something I care for, so I payed more attention to what would suit me.

Works great in my experience, and I'd say that Mr. Davidoff would be considered someone with a bit of knowledge on the subject (and the book is a really interesting read in many ways, I'd recommend picking it up off Amazon, as it was only about $15 or so)

––P.S.: none of the above was intended to discredit the OP, or any other posters, and their advice regarding chocolate, nor their knowledge in general. Just wanted to add another method I was familiar with that works for me, and to recommend Davidoff's book for some great info and entertainment.

Hmm, ill have to try that. Ive always heard of having it around for combating nic sickness.
My drink of choice is a Dr. Pepper. Ive found I can pick up alot more from both the cigar AND the drink when paired.

I like the fresh myself but I have had flakes out of the bag and toasted at "tasting" events....only have ever been to two as we don't get much of that up here.
The fresh was a total different flavor and that was the point.
And the darkest chocolate gave me the best taste.
