| I've never really had any nice cigars before but have been interested in getting some lately and was wondering where to start. I don't know anything about cigars but from looking around online there are a ton of different brands and styles. Would it be best for someone like me to buy a sampler with different brands etc to get a variety of styles and tastes since I don't know what I like yet? I would like to keep it reasonably priced so if I don't like one its not a huge loss. There are some local stores around and JR is about 45 minutes away from my house if that helps. Guys got any advice? |

What are your tastes in beers/coffee? This can help. For example, if you don't like stouts or porters in the beer category, or really dark roast coffees then Maduro cigars probably aren't going to be a good starting point for you. If you like lighter bodied beers or coffees then I would suggest cigars with a connecticut or maybe some with a colorado wrapper. You also want to steer clear of anything with the word Ligero in it's description (for now).

| I like pretty much all beer except for real dark stouts and oatmeal porters but like regular porters. As for coffee the bolder and darker the better. Main reason I don't like the dark stouts is they taste kind of chocolately to me and I'm not a big fan of chocolate, don't know if that is a quality in some cigars |

In that case, maduros are not out of the question.
One of my favorites is the Punch Rothschild Maduro. Middle of the road for a maduro, it won't blow your head off. A nice, solid stick IMHO. Hard to go wrong with a Romeo y Julieta cedros deluxe #2. Cigars are like people, you have to get to know a few to figure out which ones you really don't care for. |

Quoted: I'm not a big fan of chocolate, don't know if that is a quality in some cigars That is a quality of some cigars, but from my personal experience it usually more closely resembles a unsweetened chocolate. My experience is rather limited compared to others on here, so take it for what it's worth. |

I am betting a muduro may not be your cup o tea. Try a Camacho Corojo Toro Both of the mentioned cigars are brilliant however may be a bit strong out of the box. OP my only suggestion is to get a humidor, fill it with random cigars and smoke your way through them. Cigar International is a great place to do this on the cheap. Buy one of their big variety samplers and smoke your way through. If you keep track of what cigar you're smoking (size, country, filler, so forth) you'll quickly figure out what you like and don't like. I could tell you X cigar is amazing and Y is horrible yet when you smoke them, you'll find your tastes are the opposite of what I recommended. Welcome to the hobby! |
