| I just opened a box that I ordered from an online retailer. I am sure they will make it right, but I am concerned that it may spread. It was in a sealed box and in my coolerdor for about a week. I have obviously removed it from my coolerdor. None of my other cigars are showing signs of mold...yet. What are the chances of mold spreading? I know this is not from the environment in my coolerdor as my tested hygrometer reads 68% and 68F virtually everytime I check. The highest it has been 70%. |

I won't worry for now, the temp should be cold enough that mold growth should not be an issue, just keep an eye on the cigar.
For pre-emptive action, you can put some PG solution in your coolerador, it will surpress mold growth, or better yet, a shot glass fill with rum or vodka. |

HUH? what would that do? seems like it would impart some vodka or rum flavors to your entire humidor. please clarify. to the OP: If you do a search you'll see I had a mold outbreak a couple months ago. I was using PG solution exclusively and still had an outbreak. I wiped off the mold off least effected cigars (and burned them asap) and tossed the one that was really ravaged by mold. I removed all humidification devices from the humidor for a week. during that time my humidor still held a RH of about ~60%. After my heartfelt beads arrived I vacuumed the inside of my humidor and aired it out just in case. Humidity has been at 65% since with no return of mold. Seems to me that since your moldy cigars were inside a box, the rest of your humi should be fine. See if any wood inside your humidor changed colors because of mold. Then just drop the humidity for a week, open and air out your humidor daily. While you have it open, inspect all cigars for mold and remove affected ones promptly. after that regularly inspect all cigars for mold from time to time (This step came for me automatically due to fear) This worked well for me and I haven't had any mold return. |

This is a bit overkill, but will certainly work. OP odds are the cigars came from the seller in that condition. Don't stand for that. Either send them back or demand a refund. If your RH doesn't get above 70 and your temp stays somewhat below 70, you'll be just fine. If both are above that 70 mark, you could get mold. Keep the moldy sticks separate from the others (ziplock bag will work) and get them the hell back to the retailer. |

FYI, alcohol is a mold suppressant, which suppress mold growth. One can use rubbing alcohol, but not recommended, vodka is tasteless and odorless, which will work. |

Interesting: Does alcohol suppress mold growth within it's immediate vicinity or does it spread it's mold-inhibiting properties throughout the whole humidor? |

Alcohol vapor prohibit mold growth, which will distribute thru out the humidor. I have active humidifier units in my cabinet, so I put it near the fan. |

If you get an outbreak, which I have, gently wipe off the mold and smoke those bad boys. I just use a dry paper towel.
Matter o fact, I have some right now with mold on them. Happened during my move and the temps got too high where they were during transit. They're exceptionally tasty. With all that said, If I got a new box from a retailer and it was moldy upon opening, I would be asking them to replace the box. My current mold situation is not spreading and I'm not worried about it. |

Mold on foot, especially blue-green mold, DO NOT smoke, its toxic and can get you very sick. To which, dibs on your gear. |
