Alright guys, I'm pretty new to this cigar stuff.  I'm looking for some sticks to try.  That said, I like Montecristo White Label.  They seem to be a pretty good smoke for me.  Last time I was at the shop a guy pointed me towards Perdomo Lot 23.  That was also a pretty good smoke.  Those are really the only two that I can remember really enjoying.  I've had some Nubs, but I was too intoxicated to remember them too well.  So is there anything you all would recommend?  Thanks.

Mike

Well I think in your case, the best thing to do is to get some samplers and 5 packs and try a lot of stuff.  From what you said you already like, you'll want to stick to medium strength smokes for now.  Maybe try some med-full if you're feeling adventurous.

I made a list of good retailers I've used.  Its an archived thread, but all the links in my original post are live.

Ban the swisher sweet guy.

OP to answer your question, I"d recommend spending a bill or two on CI and buy a bunch of samplers.  That'll really teach you what you like/dislike.

This is the humidor forum, not the smoking forum, so please, just turn around and disappear.

As for the OP, you want to look for mild to medium bodied cigars, like the Aston Cabinet and the Oliva G or O.  I stick to the few good brands in the beginning, and stay away from the Dominican "Cuban" brands like Monticristo...etc.
For a very good first smoke, try the Davidoff Special R, a bit pricy, but lots of wonderful flavor and spice.  I have yet smoked a Davidoff that had a bad draw, fall apart, turn bad or bitter on me.

I am fond of the Perdomo Lot 23s.  The rule is try a variety - either through Cigars Int'l or your local cigar shop.   If you have a good local shop - just ask for help.

Some of you noobs should check out cigarweekly.  It's a typical cigar forum.
In the trading section you can find a noobie sampler trader thread.  The deal there is you hook up with a long term smoker.  They know what they like.  They'll trade you a massive sampler of different sticks if you buy them a box or whatever of what they like.  You tend to set the price.  In most cases back when I started, I'd spend a bill on something and in return I'd get about 150+ different smokes.
It's a hell of a good deal and these guys don't fuck around with you and send swishers or shit cigars.
