I plan to use either particle board or plywood to screw on top
of the 1" x 8"s used to provide a storage platform in my garage. The area over my cars has that type of wood, is over 60 years old and I'd like to use a 4' x 8' sheet to provide a smooth, single-plane surface and keep the dust off my cars. (The planks of wood have a 1/2" gap between them that the sheet would cover) Is the partilce board termite proof? (I know it's NOT water-proof) What do you think? |

Do not waste your money on partilce board it is crap and should be outlawed use either real CDX plywood or chip board |
| You know, if you're screwing this down over an already stable surface...IE no need for strength you just want a smoother surface, you could use that 1/4" cedar chipboard people use in closets. The advantage to this is that it would be more insect resistant than other products. |

The particle board will be 99% supported by the 1" X 8" planks. (So can't really fail.)
The termite question comes in because I've heard that "most" lumber-yard lumber HAS termites. I didn't want to BRING them in. (Have none at this time...) Perhaps 1/4" thick MASONITE will be better. (Like I said in my original post, it will be screwed down ON TOP of existing 1" x 8" s) |
