i was in the attic of my house i just bought checking to see if a stain on one of the cieling is new or old. the rafters and plywood are dry but i noticed that the plywood doesnt reach the peak of the roof. there is a saw mark on the rafters also which means it was cut out all along the top of the roof. the tar paper is moist( its currently raining) and was wondering if there is a reason not to join the plywood at the peak of the roof. the stain is nowhere near the peak. thanks leon |
| Most likely you have a Ridge Vent along the peak of the roof. It is necessary to keep the plywood cut back 2-4" each side to allow proper airflow through the ridge vent on hot days. If the paper is wet, though, the vent is leaking and should be checked out. If it was a REALLY hard blowing rain, a little leakage at the ridge vent isn't the end of the world because rain can be wind driven under the edge, but if it was just a normal storm, have it checked out before your roof starts to have issues. |
