So my cabinet rehab project has turned into a cabinet replacement.  The old carcasses were really deteriorated, and would have taken way too much to fix.  So, my questions is, what are some decent, cost effective, cabinets?  This is a house in a neighborhood that is being re-gentrified, so the kitchen needs to be OK, but I don't want to over do it.

I've seen the Hamilton Bay cabinets on homedepot.com.  They are full plywood carcasses, with dovetail hardwood drawer boxes.  They seem like good option.  Anyone ever use these? Other options?

Buy a tablesaw, miter saw, glue, nail gun, router, etc. and build your own.  You will spend less and will have the tools left over.

(I have seen me do it)

I have seem me do it as well, but remember to factor in time.  I'm a contractor and have a wood shop, sometimes its still cheaper for me to go out and get pre-made cabinets (for my own home).

OP-  I am not sure of HD or Lowes, never used them.  There r plenty of places online where you can order cabinets as well, there r even sights that will build to size using a material of your choice.  most of these places will send you all the material cut to size (in flat packs) and you assemble.  Pretty much the same as Lowes and HD do, but more selection and you can probably find ones that r made in the states.

How far is High Point, NC from you?

We buy Marsh Cabinets www.marshfurniture.com  for some of our jobs.  Excellent quality, at half the price of Kraft Maid/Merillat, etc.

I don't know if they sell to the public, but you can use a credit card and setup an account.

I'll also recommend Marsh Cabinets. I looked at Home Depot and Lowes, and there's were lower quality at a higher price than Marsh's cheapest line. Marsh is just down the street so I looked through their showroom.  I ordered mine and had them in less than 10 days delivered. Small kitchen work of cabinets cost about $900 delivered.   Installed them myself without any real difficulty.

Did you purchase the cabinets with a dealer account or do they sell direct as well?
