I have a "Superior" (not) gas fireplace with millivolt controls that has problems staying lit, and when it goes out, it also turns off the pilot light as well, even though the pilot light normally stays on when the main flame is off.
I've already replaced the thermocouple, which somewhat improved it, but still have the same problem-any ideas? |

I'm interested in replacing my vent free fireplace with a Superior vented one. I guess you don't like yours but Superior makes the size that I need to fit in my particular space....at least they are the only one i've been able to find. |

Thanks-is hot soapy water for this use like the .mil code for "you should really be using carb cleaner but we can't tell you to use that toxic shit"? Carb cleaner would also work fine. No dice-cleaned the pilot assy. with soapy water and some left over Seafoam-it looks like what's happening in that the pilot assy is "fed" through a narrow ductile tube similar to thermocouple copper rod, but hollow. On top of that, this tube looks like it has come loose from the barbed ferrule so it may not be sealing completely on the pilot orifice, even though I can still get a decent pilot flame.
The millivolt flame sensor wiring is shaky, but can be manipulated so that it "tells" the valve to feed gas and I get ignition-according to my multimeter, I'm getting between 30-40 mV at the terminals After operating between 5 and 10 minutes, I'll hear heat expansion going on, and usually have a loud clunk prior to flameout of both the "log" pipe as well as the pilot. |
