Our fridge (about 8 years old) is freezing up and will not cool. If we unplug it and let it defrost for a day or two it will run good for a week or two then will stop cooling, The freezer portion will sometimes frost up at about the same time. We have and are in the habit of cleaning under and the back of the fridge every few months. Any suggestions as to what might be causing our problems or what to check? |
Sure sounds like one of these. The defrost heater element could be bad but check the other(cheaper) parts first. Search the internet for appliance parts, repair, or troubleshooting. There are some sights that are very helpfull. I will see if I can find the site I used. Hometips.com There are a lot more. Read the troubleshooting sections. They are easy to understand. Unplug the unit from the wall! Follow the troubleshooting instructions. You may have to disassemble some things to find what you are looking for. Just be patient and try not to break the plastic parts. They are screwed and snapped together with lots of tabs. I fixed a 20 year old Gibson Market Master for my Mother. All that was wrong was the wire for the defrost heater had cold cycled itself apart. I plugged it back together and it worked fine. I twisted the bullet connector a little to make sure it was secure and put it back together. I lined up a separator panel that was misaligned from a previous repair. The fridge works better than ever. I had to turn the temperature control to below position one. |
