I am planning on building a treehouse this summer for my boys. I have started to look at plans. If you have any FREE plans that you could link to I would appreciate it. One of my main problems with the building site is that there is no electricity. We are building a house there next year. Without the electricity it will be harder to cut the lumber to size. I have a handsaw but prefer to use either my miter saw or skilsaw. I don't want to spend a lot on new tools. I do need a new (bigger) hammer. For the saw issue I was either going to buy a rechargable one or look into a convertor. Will the convertor handle the saw? I know a generator would be best solution but that is too much $ at this time. Any other tips are welcome. I will try to post a picture next week of the tree that the treehouse will be built in. I am envisioning a roofed structure with a ladder, slide, and hopefully a zipline. |

I like the idea of teaching them how to use tools. They are almost 7 and 5 and need to learn how to treat tools. I will use 2 cordless drills for any screws though just to save my wrists and forearms. I prefer to do the cutting on site because I am sorta of the guy who measures twice, cuts once, measures again, cuts twice. I may just have to find a friend with a generator who wants to help with the project and then mention how I wish I had a generator to use. |

Chain Saw. I have used one few times when electricity was a problem. It works pretty good. Defiantly accurate enough for a tree house. Chain saws are also a good tool to teach kids how to use. My dad taught my brother and I how to use one. Little did we know he was setting us up to get free firewood for life! Haha. Good Luck. A tree house is a good place to make lots of memory's. Also a tip for the tree house design. Make sure it has at least two entry points. When you are playing war its only fair to have alternate entry's. Our tree house also had a fireman's pole. Now that was fun. I'm pretty sure we played with our tree house until we were like 11 and 14. If we hadn't moved to another house we probably would have played in it longer. |

Thanks for the tips. I have a chainsaw. I was worried about accuracy, but it's not like the treehouse has to be a work of art. Just has to be solid and fun for the kids. I definitely will add a firemans pole. I already ordered the zipline parts. My wife is freaking out on that idea. Oh well. ETA: I will post pics or start a new thread when actual construction starts. |
