we bought this house 5 years or so ago. It had a half assed kitchen remodel done mid 90's
I got tired of a looking at it and didnt like the way the kitchen was shut off from the rest of the house. I also didnt like the way the steps went to the basement.
Where the steps go down to the basement now with the half wall use to be a closet. the basement steps use to enter by the large cabinets that go celing to floor next to the refridge.
I wanted to open up the kitchen so its open to the dining room and the living room.
The cabinets had a clear poly coat on them. I sanded them down stained them dark and put new poly on them.
trashed the counter top, spent 150.00 on a new lam one from home depot.
pulled up the old ceramic tile, installed new backer board and turned the tile on a 45.
Pulled down the walls that was the basement stairs and closet. Installed some glue lams.
drywalled it all took me about 6 weeks off and on to complete the kitchen.
part of the reason I am doing all this iss so the basement can be used as a family room and an office for me.
When it was just the wife and I, we didnt need the basement. Now with 2 rug rats we need the space for a play room, pool table, big screen tv..the basics.
Last winter we installed a new french drain around the whole premiter of the basement. this winter I have all the office built, walls built, drywalled, celing textured. Now I need to paint and figure out what I am going to put on the floor, carpet or tile.
Heres some pics of the kitchen. I will try to find some from before, just incase anyone doesnt know what a 1960's kitchen looks like.
Oh the place where the tall cabinets are next to the fridge, is where the back door use to be.
Sorry about the spelling and grammer, my ability to build things is my strong point.
Dont tell anyone i have a cat....it has bad breath too
