Does the fan run? If so it could be the fuse. If the fan is not running it could be one of the door switch interlocks. The fuse is 2.00 and the switches are 3.00. I have one I need to tear into myself. SS

Just google "troubleshooting microwave oven"

IF you wife happened to use the 'cook time' instead of timer for 2 minutes without anything in the microwave it probably fried (pun intended) the magnatron..

BTW - Cost to fix magnatron $200 - Cost of new microwave $199

Could be the transformer. I replaced one a few years ago.
Factory model was $130
Cheap replacement one $70.

There is a supply shop near my house that helps me fix things. That is where I got it at.

Whatever u do discharge the Capacitor when u break it open...if u don't know how to do that ..leave that damn thing alone....some of those damn things store enough juice to kill u and some have a pulse type cap that u have to have a diode to discharge..I will work anything, but a Microwave..

BTW If its Kenmore then of course u know by now its another manufacture...Kenmore is just a name on someone Else's shit

I fixed mine this morning with a 1.99 switch from FRY'S.  It was one of the door interlock switches. Took 10 min to trouble shoot and 15 to change out the switch. Don't sweat the capacitor if you don't touch it it won't bite ya. It would have been hard to even touch the terminals on mine they were WELL insulated. SS

Is there more than 1 switch ? I only see 1 in the bottom latch hole. Found out its a GoldStar.

On mine there are FIVE switches. Two at bottom two at top and one in the middle. You will have to take the cover off and take out the assembly behind the control panel if it's anything like mine to see all the switches. Take pictures and notes so you know how to put it all back. I used my multimeter to figure out which switch had no continuity with  the switch closed. The one that was bad would squeak as it was depressed but not when it was pressed all the way. I came close to missing it. SS
