I painted my 10/22 in basically the same procedure except I was going for  more of a "woodlands" type camo and I used an air brush. The krylon has seemed to hold up well and even if you do need a touch up its easy and cheap!

Very nice work there. As soon as I get the funds, I want to get another CavArms lower in a shade of green or sand and have at it. My current CA lower is one from the CavAid fundraiser and I don't want to dick it up...it is a modern day classic.

Great pics and a great tutorial. I have been painting some mags and want to try multicam. This thread is giving me the courage to try it!

Looks great Q!

Do I spy some Speer stuff on there?  It's blending so good with the background it's hard to tell...

Nice work above.

Guys I'll work on getting the pics back...I need to delete a bunch of useless pics on that account so I don't go over the bandwidth any more.  I'll work on that today.

Sorry for the hassle.

Some of the krylon colours aren't  available anymore ... any suggestions ? How does the duracoat multicolor kit compares to this multicam refinish ?

Here are a couple links using Duracoat colors.
Link 2 uses the multicolor kit. The author doesn't like the Multi Dark Brown...too light. I'd have to agree from his photo.
Link 1 used Woodland Brown which looks pretty good.

The above rifle is pretty sweet; I've seen it myself in real life.

When I get my Rem 700 SPS Tac, ccsmith will probably be painting it in a similar fashion.

splitbolt - Your paint job is incredible and imho the best match for your (and mine) environment. I was wondering if you have some more up-to-date pictures with the leaves turning color and/or bare trees.

I'm getting ready to paint some of mine, but I'm wondering how the brighter greens will work in a leafless (or dry leaf) forest. I have a few evergreen trees and shrubs in the woods around here, but for the most part it's all the dark grays of maples and oaks.

I don't think I'll be able to match all the seasons (except snow which I think we'll have plenty of this year considering my deck has had snow on it twice this week already), but I should be able to find a happy medium.

Thanks for the compliment.
Now that I've lived with it some, I think I might have went a little overboard on the greens...for exactly the reasons you bring up. I also found a light green that was a better match to multicam than the apple green, but I can't recall the name right now. The apple green was a littlle bit on the 'florescent' side. I'll get that for you.
If the green was too strong, my plan was to dust it with some khaki.
I haven't taken it back out into the woods since the colors have changed. I'll try to get some pics this weekend if I'm not working. Thanks for reminding me.
If I do dust it, I'll get pics of that too.

I posted a summary on the technique I used here...http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=19&t=199533&page=49

My quasi variation of multicam.  The separate colors show up a lot better in the sunlight, but even so, I didn't want to go with an exact copy of multicam cause it wouldn't work as well as this in the environment it'll be used in.

Thanks!

Here they are-
Krylon Camo
Khaki 4291
Olive 4293
Medium Brown 8147
Brown 4292

Rust-Oleum Satin
Putty 7772
Spruce Green 7737

Valspar Satin
Urban Beige 65042

After I sprayed the satin spots on I buffed them with a old sock wet with thinner to get rid of the sheen.  Acetone would work as well.

P.S.  I put the Hello Kitty on there for my wife since she's fallen in love with the AR
