Howdy... I was curious if I can put peel and stick vinyl tile over existing peel and stick vinyl tile in my bathroom? The current stuff is not loose or moving or anything like that. I thought about some type of extra adhesive of some type. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! |

You can, though it never really turns out right because self-stick tiles shift and twist over time, and they buckle and shrink and expand. You have to match up the tiles exactly, because if the seams don't match up the new tiles will get lines on the face from the seams below. If you do so decide, just use a good stripper to remove any wax or glazing from the old tile faces, and remember that you can't put lighter-color tile over darker-color tile: The adhesive makes the color bleed into the lighter shade, turning your tiles that 70's sickly color pattern. It's better to rip them up and replace them, of course, which is labor intensive but not much more in materials. |

I would tear the old out. Why not? They usually aren't glued down very well. In this place we are renting now, the first night we was here, somebody (??) didn't tighten the washing machine drain hose very well, and my wife went in and she said HOLY SHIT. so i go in and see a freakin flooded floor. some of the peel and stick tiles were actually floating LOL i just dried up the water and stepped on the tiles. damn cheap landlords. but yeah, tear out the old, and if you do that, save yourself some time and trouble later on and just buy sheet vinyl; if the subfloor is in decent shape. |
