I used something similar to that but I like it better--it's "strips" of lights in a hard aluminum "U" channel with strong adhesive on the back.  I put two long ones on either side of the door and a short on on the top above the door.  I mounted a "normally on"  pressure switch on an "L" bracket on the top shelf so it turns off when the door is closed and it's fully automatic.  A duplex box on the bottom of the top shelf provides power to all three plus a Goldenrod--with the cord coming out the top of the Browning safe.  Easy/fast/cheap/effective.  Happy Beekeeper!

I didn't want a cord hanging out of my door, so I bought some battery operated LED lights from menards.  They're motion activated so they turn on just by opening the door, and they're light weight so they can hang by velco from the carpet lining.  I put two on the ceiling and one on each shelf.  Plenty of light, and they were on sale for $3.99 or something like that.

Door activated would be pretty trick. Any of you folks have any pics?

Thanks for all the replies!

My Fort Knox has lights built in as an option and is door switch operated. It's like a refrigerator. I would not be without as it is very well lit. Perhaps you could go to the Fort knox website and take a look, maybe they sell the lights seperate.

Look for the lights that are shaped like hockey pucks.  They are halogen and are now available in 120V versions so you don't have to deal with any huge transformers.  They are very bright.  I have mine on a remote control that you normally use for Christmas tree lights.  The button is velcro'd to the top of the safe.

I also installed a set of 6 halogens on my gun cleaning bench and put them on a dimmer switch.

They are like the ones in this guy's safe:

I hooked up a motion sensor to an outlet located at the bottom of the safe (inside) , then ran rope light around the door. Works great!
