Has anyone ever installed one by themselves?  What brand did you use?  Any tips, tricks, or things you'd never do again?

did it myself. If you are good at wiring and working on your house then the hardware part should not be too much trouble. The programming was what took the longest. At leaast they had a good help line.

Got all my stuff here

Funny you mention them.  That's the same site I have bookmarked.  What brand did you go with?

I got a Dsc system package  and bought extra keypay and sensors.Works great. Have it set up to dial my cell phone and I got nosy neighbors. I think I spent 300 dollars for the system and parts. It came with 2 different instuction manuals. THEY BOTH must be used together to program the alarm.

DSC makes a good system that's easy to set up.

If you are looking for a easy set up and dont want to hassel with running wires try a Ademco wireless you can find them on ebay pretty cheap . Programing is pretty easy it is one of the same brand that ADT uses...
or  you can get a FBI XL-31 does require hard wire but has 12 zones..
It depends on what you want your system to do and how many zones you need??
I install this for a living so if you have any questions let me know I will try to help I mostly do banks and GOV installs..
Thanks
Brad

I don't have a problem with putting in a hardwired one.  I'm not sure that I'd trust a wireless system.
