Beneficial or fruitless efforts ?

I have a den that is ungodly cold, it has 2 windows and a brand new slider (installed this summer). I had some extra R-30 unfaced and in the process of pulling window molding and stuffing insulation in the space between studs and window frame, there was pretty much nothing there, jus a void.

Opinions ?

*yes, I realize im asking after the fact, jus curious as to thoughts on this.

go for it, insulation is good unless

they are old windows with the rope and counter balance weights that ride in that space, otherwise insulate

I used the "foam in a can" made for the purpose (minimal expansion).  It seals things up beautifully and is necessary, IMO, as a huge amount of heat is lost around windows and doors.  Put it in, let it cure, trim as needed with a fillet knife, then put the trim up.  Cheap, easy, and VERY effective.

Naw , these are modern, double pane windows.

I have the electrical panel in that same room, going to pull the cover off and see whats around the edges as well. I already pulled baseboards and spray foamed between wall and floor, but think im going to go under the house and run some R-30 along the wall/floor.

*edit - update*

Pulled electric panel cover off, i stuffed an insane amount of insulation all around the panel, I didnt think it was going to end, lol. I also had some stick-on weatherstripping and put that around the panel cover, so Ill get a good seal from the panel to the wall. So , hopefully all these lil things help.

I keep cans of Great Stuff on hand and use it liberally every chance I get.

Fiberglass insulation does not do all that much for infiltration.

Use some low expanding foam to fill and seal the cavities.
