I'm building a downstairs bedroom and and would like light with LED recess lights. I would also like to add some to my upstairs living room. I want both to be dimmable.
What is the best route to go? Standard recessed light fixtures + LED bulbs, or are there stand-alone recessed LED light fixtures? |

You may need a shallow ceiling housing, and the wire may have to be fished through the ceiling frame. Quoted:

How hard is it to mount the cans in a ceiling if you can not access from the top (i.e. first floor of 2 story) They make what's called remodel cans or old work cans. They're designed to be wired up and then snapped into the hole in the ceiling. Installing the can is easy, getting the wire to the can will probably be the hardest part. |

Use a standard recessed can fixture but don't use LED bulbs, get a 6 inch LED can retrofit Quoted:

Thanks for the advice. Standard cans/LED bulbs it is!! Use a standard recessed can fixture but don't use LED bulbs, get a 6 inch LED can retrofit THIS. Cans were about $7.50 each. Got these bulbs: Lowes,... but get a coupon first They dim awesomely. They are a warm light. NOT blue. |

Yup that's a damn good price Remember with LED the lower the number the more warm/Yello the light 2700k vs 3500k and so on |

My circuit is shared with a chandelier over the table that is also on a dimmer but with incandescent bulbs. With the incandescents dimmed it sometimes causes the LED's to flicker, and especially if they are dimmed down. |

I was looking at the retrofits on Menard's website and thinking that was the way to go. I'll have to see if I can get over to Lowe's for the $7.50 ones. |

And look for the CRI number. 100 is perfect sunlight...good LED's are 90/94...I would avoid low 80 CRI numbers. CRI = color rendering index |

I have the same issue with one of these Utilitech lights. 6 of them in the basement and one likes to flicker when I dim the lights. I think I'm going to take them back and either get the ones from Costco or else buy baffles and LED lights separately. |
