I am looking at installing my own wireless home security system. My wife and I do not want a contract or to pay anyone to monitor the systme. I want to get notifications to an email or cell phone alerts. Is this possible or do I have to pay for a monitoring service?
Any ideas on the best way to go about this, or am I looking at the wrong system? Any other ideas / suggestions / hints / etc. |

Check in the Safes & Home Security section. A lot of info in there.

I did something similar to what you are looking for. The budget method is to use the Envisalink internet module, it cost $99 to purchase, but has no other fees. It will require a cat5 cable from the module to your router to send a signal and communicates by both text and email. It also has a smartpone app that allows you to monitor, arm and disarm.
The other method is to use the Honeywell IP controller and total connect app. It will cost about $30 a month with no contract or monitoring, but allows you to control lighting, thermostats, and cameras. |
