Looking for a good quality electric residential gate opener, single swing.  What is a good quality brand?

I have had the us automatic patriot for about two years and have not had a single problem with it. Our gate is 16' wide and weighs maybe 250 lbs. It gets opened and closed probably six times a day on average. The wireless remote works good also. Our house is probably 500' from gate and it works from inside the house.

It was not cheap but it was worth it. I have seen neighbors get cheaper brands and have troubles.

I can tell you as someone who installed and serviced both residential and commercial gates that they are a head ache and cost lots of dollars. A good one wil cost you big dollars up front and will run with little problem for a few years then as parts start to wear out you get to spend big bucks again to repair it and keep it running. I know of many gates where the people final just open the gate and left it open because of the cost to keep it running. Two things that are hard on the gate and the gate opener are getting bump by a car or a big wind load which throws the gate out of time which will keep it from opening or closing all the way. I once work on a gate in a mountain top resort where the wind would blow the gate open against the opener causing all kinds of probelms. I finally had to biuld a electro/mechanical lock that would hold the gate close but would release and let the gate open when the controls were activated. Lighting is another big concern for gates due to all the electric comtrols in the opener its self. Yet another problem I have seen is being able to get parts down the road I have seen several companys that make gate parts come out with a new design and not support the older stuff which means you need to buy a whole new opener or have a gate that no longer works.

We sold a lot of the Mighty Mule gate openers when I worked at the hardware store. I don't remember anybody having a lot of problems with them.

Liftmaster is the best.  I run one on my gate.  You can even hook it up to battery/solar for remote ops.

If you have a liftmaster garage door opener, it will run on the same remotes.

Apollo.  Excellent product and customer service.  They're pricey, but you only have to pay for it once.   If I were you I would stay as far away from a Mighty Mool as possible.

I'm interested also. I'm planning a pipe entrance, with 16' wrought iron gate.
