Want to have a small aluminum part anodized...preferably colored as well.

Read through some DIY anodizing and I'm not so sure I even want to attempt that.

Has anyone done this?  Or better yet, does anyone know a reasonably priced anodizer that does low volume stuff.  Seems the anodizers I've dealt with in the past for work are in the high volume production stuff.  They'll do a single part, but charge you $100-$200 lot charge.

Did you try us anondizing?

I've done considerable home anodizing and helped develop the LCD process being used by caswellplating.com, and it will probably cost you a few hundred to get properly set up, and even then the results will not be 100% guaranteed. If you go this route, you can download instructions here.

That being said, if you are only going to do a few items, it probably isn't worth the cost of doing it at home (unless you like a challenge which was my excuse). You can usually get it done for $60-$100 at your local plating shop (most also do anodizing). US Anodizing, as mentioned by Aimless, does excellent work, and has an FFL if you are doing a AR15 lower or something that may require that type of license, but for non-regulated stuff, the local shop is probably your best bet.
