I want to build a PA system for small to medium sized events. (Weddings, parties, etc) I'm almost positive I want to go with a line array setup for a few reasons. First, they have a wide horizontal dispersion and a narrow vertical. Theoretically, this translates to less echoes and absorption from the floor and roof. Second, I want this entire setup to fit into a small car, but still have good output capabilities. That part I'm not so sure about, so I'm coming to the all-knowing arfcom for ideas. I just ordered 4 Eminence 6.5" full-range drivers. The idea will be to put them in a tall, skinny box with a ribbon tweeter or some other tweeter above them.
I'll need a sub to take care of bass duties, not sure what my best option there is. Maybe a 15" sealed unit with built-in pole mount for the array? What's the best way to get loud, accurate bass? I like the Rythmic servo subs, but that might be a little too spendy for me.
The last thing I need to do is sort out what amps I'll be using. I really want built-in panel amps, but finding suitable ones is a challenge. If I get normal amps, I'd want to bi-amp it and use an active crossover. With that solution, I think I'll be spending way more than I want to. Advice anyone?

Meyer?

For inexpensive subs, a lot of local folks run Sonic units - they come with the pole slot, and are pretty reasonably priced, made in the Milwaukee area, but they are pretty big.

What kind of car are you driving?

Mazda3 size car, probably only room for one sub and two mids.

If my midranges and tweeters don't require an enclosure, can I mount them on a piece of acrylic? Can anyone see a problem with that plan?

PERFECT!!! I canceled my parts order, and am going to build these. Thanks for that.

Have you tried any of the subs on that site?

Once you hear a folded horn sub, you'll wonder why make one any different.  Also, check in with the guys on his forum, they can provide alot of help in the direction you want to go.
