How long should I wait until I treat a newly installed deck?
30 days, two months, next year?

I know I will need to clean it and then neutralize the cleaner.

Virginia area for weather
New pressure treated pine deck
Using Behr semitransparent redwood. (I've used this on our fence and other deck and its held up great the last 3 years: water still beads off it)

Thanks

the way the fella that installed my deck told me was to wait till the wood was dried out meaning some of the wood you get from the hardware store is heavy with the treatment from where it was processed. he was right i did not take his advice and the stain only soaked in about a16th of an inch....so i waited to continue roughly 2 months in florida sun it does not take long to dry out anything, and sure enough the wood soaked it right up and the stain has held to heavy traffic now for over a year. i hope this helps some.

Thanks.  I want to wait longer, wife wants it done right away, thus the question for support....  ;-)

I would stain in fall. Use the recomended cleaner from the stain manufacturer. This should help remove mill glaze and other contaminants.

I waited about a month to do mine.  It sat during a hot June.  IMO, it's pretty easy to tell when PT has dried.

ETA:  Save money, go to the dollar store and buy a few jugs of bleach to do the cleaning.

use a pressure washer instead of harsh chemicals to clean the deck.  Let it dry a few days, then slap on Behr

If I had to do it again, I wouldn't put a goddamn thing on it. Shit peels/fades in no time, one huge headache. Leave it bare, you can thank me annually when you're not redoing it.
