For a while now I want to get one of these under seat storage boxes. The high price kept me from buying one. Then I thought why not just make one. A sheet of plywood and some carpet later...

Professionally made box. $179.99+shipping
My cheap ass version. $50.00 And I still have half a sheet of 5/8" plywood.

Originally, I was going to add a plywood bottom but it would take up valuable space. This could have been built in one day. When I finished the assembling the box I was feeling ill. I was working in full sun and not drinking enough water.

You did a great job.

I was thinking of a solid wood corner block on each forward corner.  Rabbet the plywood into the block.  Then glue and screw it to the block.  That would be stronger than screws into end grain of the plywood.  The exterior corner of the corner block can be rounded to blend in to the seat contour.  The two blocks would be easy to make.  It probably doesn't matter but that's how I think I would have done it.

How did you secure it from sliding forward?

If you didn't, I'd recommend running some straps around the rear seat brackets.

Looks good! Are those rust stains on the carpet?

I thought about that too but I decided to keep it simple as possible. The exterior corner is set back about three inches so it doesn't need to be rounded over.

I left the bottom unfinished. The bare plywood grabs the carpet like velcro.

Maybe. As a construction worker, I keep my high end tools up front.

Looks good, I made the same thing for my 01' F150 a few months ago.

I couldn't bring myself to spend $180 for a Duha.

I have the same truck but in tan... i have been designing all kind of racks and storage options for the folded forward seat for months... where did you get the carpet?

Home Depot. I think it was $0.49sq.ft. A 6' x 2' piece was just large enough to cover the sides.
