I have cable without a convertor box and a Toshiba standalone DVR with internal hard drive. Over the years the channel listings and programs have gone away once or twice, but this time it appears they are gone forever.
Have the cable companies stopped broadcasting this info (I have COX). Is a new firmware available that fixes this, or am I dreaming? Will a newer DVR or computer build fix this.......................is any channel program listing still broadcast with straight cable, no box? Tell me I should switch to dish...........

A new DVR should have a guide service without one they are not very useful. Some new TVs have channel listings built in to the TV and you can get it via a PC DVR. Would this mean a new DVR with a monthly charge, or is there one I can get or build that would access the channel listings free? Wife loves the damn thing and makes my life hell without the listings......
