I didnt want to spend more than $1k on a TV since I had already spent tons on crap for my house. Not familar with the Denon receiver but everything else sounds great, love my logitech remote, If I was going to buy a BD standalone player the Oppo has got really great reviews. |

What sub? this one http://www.aperionaudio.com/product/Bravus-8D-Dual-8-Powered-Subwoofer,104,66,242.aspx Are you limited in the size of the sub you can fit in your room? I don't see how a pair of 8" drivers can keep up with the rest of your system. If you are not a home theater bass nut like me, then feel free to ignore my post. |

I am not limited by size I just dont want to spend a ton on audio. I thought 2 8"s would be enough. What would you say? |

IMO one 12 inch; subwoofer in the same price range would be a better choice for movies, two even better. Something like this: http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-2-mk3.html That Hus sub goes 10Hz lower which is a big plus for movies. I suggest you read here and ask questions. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=113 |

yea I am already looking around on AVS. What about 2 10s"? Two quality 10s in most all cases are better than two 8s, but the 12s trump both. The keys are a how low does the sub go a good movie sub should get down to 25Hz or lower and the bigger the driver the more air it moves. 12s are usually the best bang for the buck, going bigger than 12 inch and getting quality can be cost prohibitive. . Two subs (or more) are always better than one because the low frequency sounds subs produce will have peaks and dead spots in the room having two well placed subs help even this out and give you a more even sound across the room. Subs are the cornerstone of a good movie surround system, get subs that you can build a system on. |

I agree with svtfast 100% - a quality sub can make or break a system. It is almost as important as proper calibration.
Check out the models available from Elemental Designs. For around the same price you can get one of their ported 12" models that will crush those little 8's in extension (how low it plays). Besides guns, my only other hobby is home theater. I've been building my own subs and speakers since the late 1980's. My current current system consists of dual 15" sealed subs powered by a 2,400w amp. I have added an EQ so that the frequency response is flat, plus or minus 3db from 100hz to 17hz. It's not enough. I'm upgrading to a quad 18" infinite baffle sub and building my own drivers. I spoke with Scott Atwell of Fi Car Audio and explained my goals. He designed some custom recone kits for my TC-9 motor structures. I'm hoping to have a flat response down to 5hz. Besides AVS (those guys can get overly technical for a noob) check out Home Theater Forum. I'm a member of both. -Robert |
