I was thinking about ditching my my current surround sound system and going with a sound bar. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with these things or has heard the sound quality from any of them.

Sony CT-100 (bar + subwoofer) is supposed to be decent and also function as a three input HDMI switch-there's also supposed to be a newer model coming out with IIRC 400W output vs. the 250W of the current model.

Will it sound better than most TV speakers?  Probably.

Will it sound as good as a traditional 5.1 system in a real world environment?  No.

I figured it wouldn't sound as good as 5.1, I'm just sick of running wires and hiding speakers. I'm in the process of doing some repairs on my house and when all is said and done I want the clutter to a minimum.

Running wires is a one-time process.  Through the attic or basement.  If neither is a possibility, then removing baseboards and running behind them.

Real men are proud of their speakers.  Bose and their over-priced, tiny, crappy sounding speakers are marketed to women who could care more about form over function.  The speakers I lust after are 6 feet tall and weigh 800 pounds each.  A set for my 7.1 system would cost more than my house.
