| I'm looking at the Panasonic DMP-BD55 Blu-Ray player. Can I route the audio through my current Phillips HTS3354 DVD Home Theater Surround Sound System and still get true Surround sound? Or do I have to buy a Blu-Ray system that has built in surround sound? |

The player will have a collection of logos/icons on it and/or the box and/or the manual that tells you what surround formats it supports. Such as Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, THX Surround EX, SDDS, etc.
There is no "blu-ray specific" surround format. See what formats your sound system supports. See if the cabling and connectors for the sound system match up to what's on the Blu-Ray player. Don't limit yourself to a Panasonic player. Sony and Pioneer are the brands I'd buy. I simply have more trust in those companies. CJ |

If you do not need the 7.1 analog outputs, the BD35 may fit your bill at a lower cost.
I have one and it does a great job with Blu-Ray and also up-converting legacy DVD's. Audo is supported via HDMI, optical, and RCA - no digital coaxial. reviews.cnet.com/video-players-and-recorders/panasonic-dmp-bd35/4505-6463_7-33248632.html?tag=mncol;txt |
