Rent it today as soon as Blockbuster opened. There were some really funny bits, and I LOL'd when Harry Pfarrer (George Clooney) whacked that "chair" with a hammer. But the movie felt disjointed, as if it was glued together from different comedy sketches.
Trivia: - Brad Pits called himself Mr. Black when he was in a car with John Malkovich. Pits was in the movie "Meet Joe Black" as .... Joe Black! - The ax scene toward the end was lifted from Fargo, another Coen Bro. movie. |

Didn't like it, had its moments, not much else. Pretty much my thoughts as well. My wife couldn't wait to see it because of the scenes they show in the previews with Brad Pitt. Overall I think the movie pretty much sucked. I don't think the brothers will ever be able to top Big Lebowski. They set the bar so high for themselves that it's unlikely they'll ever be able to get repeat it. |
| just watched it today too. absoloutely one of the worst movies i have watched in a long time. dude gets fired, starts writing book. somehow book ends up on cd on floor of gym. they find cd, try and sell cd to get lady facelify, everybodies does acting like ideots. that was the movie...... a perfectly good waste of a few hours of my life |

Rented and watched it last night.
Great acting undone by not-so-great writing. Some funny parts, but I felt that the movie as a whole was an amalgamation of proven Cohen movies. Just didn't work this time. The SO said it should have been titled "Burn After Watching". ![]() |

I think they didn't know how, or didn't want to bother, to write the ending, so they just have everybody take off or shot/killed. They didn't even bother to act those out. Absolutely. Very deus ex machina feel to the end. more like someone pinched a deuce on the film and mass distributed it. The more I think about this movie the more sucky I realize it was. The Cohen Brothers are good, but they have the stumbling movies like any other established directors... this is a piece of shit they tumbled over... unfortunately my wife bought the thing just to watch it |

... You idiots That was a great mind-fuck movie! That movie will be a cult classic in 5-10 years ... two favorite quotes: "PC or Mac?" "I seemed to have misplaced it, let me burn another off my hard-drive" Pitt sucked A cult full of idiots perhaps |

The Coen brothers have done several of my all time favorites: ... If you "don't get" these movies either, I can understand your point |

In fact I consider "Raising Arizona, Fargo, Big Lebowski, and Blood Simple" to be among my all-time favorites. Besides containing some of the most quotable lines of all time, they're simply fascinating movies to watch (multiple times). "Burn After Reading" just wasn't their best work. Damn near zero character development and takes the pulp movie to the extreme. |

I didn't like the movie, but the 2 scenes J.K. Simmons had had me rolling.
CIA Superior (Simmons): What did we learn, Palmer? CIA Officer: I don't know, sir. CIA Superior: I don't fuckin' know either. I guess we learned not to do it again. CIA Officer: Yes, sir. CIA Superior: I'm fucked if I know what we did. CIA Officer: Yes, sir, it's, uh, hard to say CIA Superior: Jesus Fucking Christ. the delivery was fucking hilarious. |

You are right, those were great scenes. |

Yeah, Simmons was great in the movie...
"Don't know why he was trying to go to Venzuela" "You don't know??" "No, sir" "We have no extradition with Venezuela" "Oh...So what should we do with him?" "Fuck's sake, put him on the next flight to Venezuela!" Great dialogue! |
