I'm looking to buy a BR player and after some researching I found out that the PS3 is the most recomended BR player out there, followed by the Panasonic DMP-BD55 and BD35. Also Sony have an offer till Dec 31. If you apply for the Sony CC, get approved and buy a PS3, they will knock off $150 of the price of the PS3.

What is your opinion? |

For me too.
I returnd a Samsung BluRay player when it looked no different than an upscaling DVD player. Plus the PS3 processes the sound properly. Quoted:

Just found this article. Is from January 08, so I hope BR players had gotten better since then.
http://consumerist.com/344116/buyers-beware-current-blu+ray-dvd-players-wont-correctly-play-future-discs I leaning to the PS3 so far. For $249 + price of remote is looking like a winner. |

We have a Xbox360 an a nintendo wii at home. Don't use any of them. Is boiling down to performance vs price. PS3 looking good, but I will wait till the christmas crazyness is over to see if BR players go down in price a little bit. |

I just got a Panasonic BD35.
I have it hooked to my Onkyo 606 via HDMI. Excellant picture and sound and does a real good job of up-converting legacy DVD's. I have no other experience with other BR players to make a comparison. If I was a gamer or saw it in my future, I probably would have gone with the PS3. |

I've got a PS3 and my next Blu-ray player will be a PS3 as well. I saw a 1.5TB hard drive online tonight for $109. That's quite a BR player, upconverting DVD player, media center, web browser and game station for the price. No doubt that PS3 is the most versitile. Your gonna want a BR player that has internet connectivity, might as well get one that you can use as a computer as well. You can run Linux or Windows on the PS3, chat with freind, surf the web, and even play the gay COD5 like Another Dude.. |

| Until recently if you wanted a stand-alone BR player that was as capable as the PS3 you had to pay more. But I believe the Panasonic and the Sony both touched $150 this shopping season, so the PS3 is losing ground fast. Just don't buy one that isn't "BD-Live" capable. If it doesn't say, skip it. |

Of those standalones, how do the firmware updates work? I only have the PS3 and the FW updates are dang near automatic, so I'm not sure how it works on the non-PS3 players. |

You won't be able to use them in the PS3 though, those are 3.5" drives, not 2.5". Biggest 2.5" is currently 500GB I think. |

I've a PS3 and Sony s350, the s350, the 350's interface screen is just like the PS3's minus the PS3 stuff. If it has an available update it should pop up and tell you just like on the ps3. |

Panasonic BD35
I personally use a PS3, but my parents find it a pain in the arse to use. The samsung 1500 and sony 350 are also decent, but nowhere near as good as the pana. We have used all 3 of them in my store, as well as the sony 550 and the pana is the best |

I believe Samsung works as well, though the only one I'm sure about is Seagate. I wouldn't buy Samsung drives anyway. |
