I'm getting excited about this movie.  I hope it doesn't suck.

Looks like a winner from the previews I've seen.

The trailers look great.  I like when he's chatchitting with the servicemen and one asks "would it be cool if I take a picture with you?" and he responds "Yes, it would be very cool."  (It's the deadpan way he says it.)

"This isn't the most embarassing thing you've walked in on me doing"

Great quotes so far. I hope this is as good as Transformers.

I saw the preview for it before some movie I picked up on DVD lately and while I admit it has the potential to be a pretty good superhero-type film the first minute or so of the preview looked like it could be a damned good military-type film.

It looks like it could well be a damned good movie.

I'm a little surprised that Robert Downey, Jr. is in the lead role.  But I think it fits him.

I just can't help wondering how long he'll make it before he gets back into more drug trouble.  I hope he never does,  but I fear that he will, eventually.

The Game Trailer

this movie should be sick....unless they managed to pluck every cool scene from an otherwise shitty movie and stuck it into the trailer....which i HIGHLY doubt.

i don't think they could've done any better job of casting downey jr as tony starks, talk about a mirror image (think tobey maguire as spidey, same thing).

can't wait.

I could think of a hundred a few actors that would fit that role better than Robert Downey Jr. Hopefully he pulls it off.

Daniel Craig
Edward Norton
Keanu Reeves
Matt Damon
Mel Gibson
Bruce Willis
Nicholas Cage
Kurt Russell
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Tom Cruise

That's what makes Robert Downey such a great "dark horse" for this role.

Just from the trailers it looks like he was cast perfectly.

edit: Any list that includes Nicholas Cage is autoFAIL

Robert Downey Jr is the perfect actor to play Tony Stark.  Stark struggles with alcoholism through out the comic books.

I agree the clips I have seen so far indicate that this might be the best comic book movie adaptation to date.

Quoted:
Daniel Craig - blonde, not dark haired, doesn't have the square chiseled face of stark
Edward Norton - better candidate, but far too busy w/hulk
Keanu Reeves - his accent ruins it, not a charmer like stark is supposed to be
Matt Damon - see daniel craig
Mel Gibson - hahaha, this is a joke right?
Bruce Willis - bald, still not a charmer
Nicholas Cage - balding, doesn't have the face to match
Kurt Russell - too old
Arnold Schwarzenegger - ok i guess mel gibson wasn't a joke, bc this is obviously the joke here
Tom Cruise - too short

basically, none of these big name actors you name exhibit the personality required (as mentioned, the alcohol/substance abuse problem helps, along with downey's ability to be flamboyant and overly cocky and pull it off well).

I dunno I think that Edward Norton could pull it off but he is an amazing actor in itself.

i dunno, if he can pull of the hulk i'd give him a fair shot at being able to iron man.

great actor, but i don't see him being able to do the cocky over the top thing as well as downey jr....i remember in batman begins when he was trying to pull off the whole playboy thing and he just didn't look natural.

I have a new found respect for this movie. I saw one of the new trailers a couple days ago, and they played Black Sabbath

That was what Bale was going for though.

I don't think Bale needs to have all the super hero save our childhood movies. He's already Batman and he'll be playing John Conner in Terminator IV.

I have been waiting for this movie for 20 years.

I think it will be true to the character, as Jon Faverau is a big comic fan.  As far Downey Junior, who better to play a cocky womanizing alcoholic than him?

That's gospel.  RDJ as the pre-injury Tony Stark is casting GENIUS, I am slightly (just a tad) concerned about how he plays the hero after becoming Ironman.  But, for all his drugging and drinking, the guy is NOT a bad actor.
