geez, what is wrong woith hollyweird?
it wasn;t like this when I was a kid??? --------------------------------------- Brad Pitt to star in 'Bullitt' remake BANG Showbiz Jul. 4, 2007 08:40 AM Brad Pitt will star in a remake of 60s classic movie 'Bullitt.' The 'Ocean's Thirteen' actor will take the role of Lt Frank Bullitt made famous by Hollywood legend Steve McQueen in the 1968 original film. A source said, "Brad shares a lot of the same passions as Steve McQueen - including a love of motorbikes and fast cars - so it was a dream role for him." advertisement The original film sees the tough detective hunting a hitman who has killed his fellow officers. The movie is renowned for featuring one of the best car chases in cinema history as McQueen's Mustang car speeds through the rollercoaster streets of San Francisco. Brad, 43, has been linked with the role since 2003 but the project has only now been given the green light as film bosses desperately try to kick-start as many movies as possible before the Screen Actors Guild begin their anticipated strike action. Brad can next be seen playing legendary outlaw Jesse James in the western 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,' due out in October. |

THey could've used a better actor than Bradd Pitt; probably Bruce Willis or, I dunno... Nicholas Cage (he has plenty of driving experience to make the Chase Scene more credible).
Anybody but BP. |
The Starsky and Hutch remake did suck. I couldn't watch it anymore after a 1/2 hour
The driving scene with the charger and stang is still the best driving sequence I've ever seen in a movie. All the CGI in the world won't make it any better.
Way to many remakes that are just adequate, not bad not good but it's easier then actually writing something new thats worth a crap. |
Bullit isn't Starksy and Hutch.
Remakes suck period, let alone attempting a classic. |
Could be great but the bar is pretty high on this one.
How long before they start remaking the Dirty Harry movies? Will SF let them film such unabashedly violent, gun oriented movies in their little utopian asylum? |

As much as I dislike the person that is Bead Pitt, I gotta admit I like his movies.
Please, why can't they leave the classics alone?
Next thing they'll want to do "Casablanca" with George Clooney and Angeline Joley. That would be blasphemy!!! |
Brad Pitt playing the Steve McQueen part in Bullett… depressing.
I guess he is tired of doing his second rate Robert Redford imitations. |
Has there EVER been a remake that didn’t suck Moore’s testicle?
Nicky C. sucked moldy donkey butt in the Gone in 60 Seconds remake. Remakes suck, and a remake of one of the best car films ever will suck before they even setup the first camera. Mr. Angelina Jolie is not Steve McQueen. McQueen could at least act. |
Hollywood fails to do something original yet again. I am shocked.
And they still wonder why their bottom line is hurting... |
The original sucked, how could this be better? All it had was one great car chase. The rest sucks.
I hope its good. I love the original. Brad has some big shoes to fill. Does anyone know if this will be a modern version or be set in the '60's? If its a modern version, they might have been waiting till the new Mustangs and Chargers came out in the past couple of years. I'm sure it will help Ford and Dodge sales to see a modern version of the car chase. Would be pretty cool to see thos cars chasing each other through the streets of San Fran.

+1, and they might use a Black Challenger. |
Thank you Gene Shallot. |
Man card revoked. |
Only thing worse than remakes, is Hollywood versions of foreign films.
My 21 year old son saw the old and new World of the Worlds, and his opinion of the remake was . He said the original was much better. |
for those who like cars chases it'll be a blast |
Knowing Hollywood...in the remake...it will probably be a "ricer", and a motorcycle |
no kidding. |
OMG they might use a Prius. |
That movie blows. Not one of you have commented on any part of the stupid movie except the car chase. Go back and watch it, I have recently, it's boring. I like old slow movies, but this one sucked. |
+1 There is only one Steve McQueen; all the CGI in the world can't dummy up another one. |
The original Bullit was one of the greatest movies Ive ever seen, there is no way to remake it and come within a country mile of it being anywere nearly as good. The car chase was a minor part of action and suspense of Bullit. Another great thing about the movie was the use of music to set the mood instead of having actors talk the whole damn time. Thats something thats lost in todays movies.
BTW: Im 21 and I appreciate classics like this. Nobody is as cool as McQueen was. |
Not even close, Dean was not even a good actor and more whinny than cool. |
Brad Pitt doing this movie is not my fault.
ETA: The car chases in "The Blues Brothers" and "The French Connection" kicked more ass. |
Blues Brothers was cool, comedic cool, and all stunts were "stunts". The French Connection car chase? Mmmm, NO. Bullitt - Dirty cops and corrupt officials plus "at speed driving". No "lets drive 8mph and speed up the film". For those raised on "Knight Rider" it wouldn't matter. Gone in 60 Seconds - Every 60's and 70's classic car imagineable. American V8 Muscle!!! The late Toby Halicki doing some of the best driving in a movie ever. PLUS -Parnelli Jones and Big Olly. Vanishing Point - MOPAR Madness. And a damn nice naked girl on a mini bike. |
Didn't the original "Gone.." hold some sort of record for cars wrecked? And I'm aghast that you didn't like The French Connection, it's Gene Hackman... chasing a train, hitting random cars and screaming. What's not cool about that? |
Johnny Knoxville would fit the bill ......... |
What about Daniel Craig? He looks a bit like Steve McQueen. Cooler than Brad Pitt. |
Good call. |
Ditto, after seeing him in Casino Royale I'm sold on this guy's acting ability. |
I have a magazine from the mid 80's, Muscle Car Review, that did a great article on Bullit. It was titled "The Greatest Chase Scene Ever Made". They did extensive interviews with surviving cast and crew about the movie and about the cars. That 68 440 V-8 Charger ran circles around the 68 390 V-8 Mustang!! The driver of the Charger, Bill Hickman, was a real stunt driver and was in The French Connection. The gray haired actor that was the hit man, Paul Genge, almost had to be sedated to get him into the Charger after 3-4 takes. Truth be told I forget how many times I have watched the movie until the end of the chase, and I think I have watched it all the way through a hand full of times. It just depresses the hell out of me to see that nice Charger get destroyed!! |
Im not sure about how much they used sound overdubs, but just listen to the two cars during the chase. The Mustang is screaming going over those hills, and the Charger is just purring. |
They did use overdubs, the recordings were done at a local race track. According to the article, they de-tuned the 440 as much as they could to keep it from running away from the Mustang. Nothing against Fords, just that 440 was too powerful for the Stang!
I am certain it is some sort of blasphemy but I thought Casino Royal was the best bond flick ever. I have seen them all many many times; all of them, aside from licence to kill which was just awful, have their own something but Casino Royale was just fantastic. I don't know if it is good or bad that he reminds me of McQueen the first time I saw Craig I thought someone had resurrected McQueen. |
Wow, you're right, he does look quite a bit like McQueen did. I'm sure Craig would do well in the role, but I learned that he can't drive a stickshift and he hates guns. |
craig wouldn't be a half bad choice. BRad Pitt has done his time in hollywood, I say give the new guy a shot.
