| This is going to be out on dvd next tuesday, is it worth buying? I haven't seen it yet. |
|
I bought it, meant to catch it in the theater but it was pulled before I got a chance. Watched it last night, and I must say it was good. Unfortunately, I read the book "Point of Impact" years ago, and of course the movie doesn't live up to the book. I thought it was good though, and I would give it a thumbs up overall. |
|
I probably would have liked it better had I not already read the book. I think too much of the book was taken out, which took away from the characters. ie, in the book, Nick already knows how to shoot, and has the background. in the movie, Bob Lee teaches him in about a minute and a half to be a sniper. |

POI is one of my favorite books. I didn't go see Shooter at the theater simply because i knew it wouldn't live up to the book. I did have my wife pick up the DVD yesterday and watched it last night. All in all it is a pretty good movie. I knew they had changed it by updating the "war" in which Swagger fought. IMO the biggest weakness of book to movie is the fact that they didn't capture any of the "art of the rifle" that was done so well by Hunter in the book. Also the book had a distinct southern flavor that was missing from the movie, with the exception of the old gunscribe in athens Tn. my wife and I both got a kick out of him cause we know at least a handful of guys he reminded us of. |

Watched the DVD last night. Paid $1 to rent it. Was worth a dollar. Wouldn't have been worth buying though. To many technical booboo's, and overall - just not realistic. Barely followed the book and some of the stuff.... sheesh. Rambo meets Blade type realism, if ya know what I mean. |

Stephen Hunter Point of Impact You really must read the series, I liked the movie but I love the series of Swagger Books. If you think Bob Lee is a tough ass wait until you meet his Daddy! |
yep was that front site he was at in the behind the scenes thing? He did a fair amount of long range rifle training from what I saw.l |
Somewhere on DU is a guy complaining that it was nothing more than a movie from the right wing conspiracy. |
I guess dude but, you even stated yourself with the little jabs at the current administration, the war and a shitty attitude towards America. |
Oh the jabs were there. But you make it sound like a Michael Moore production. The total content of the film would be more likely to offend the left than the right. If you want the perfect film politically, it probably doesn't exist. |

If I hadn't read the book 16 times, I would say it was a pretty good movie, Some technical boo-boo's bothered me , but all in all not too bad. Certianly better than I expected out of hollywood. That said , I read the book , it is my second or third favorite fiction work out there. The movie butchered the book. Bob Lee shoulda been casted as R Lee Emery ( with the volumne turned down), That's who I always picture reading the book. Tom Selleck, Tom Sizemore or Sam Elliot even coulda pulled it off. The New kid shoulda stayed on the block. Off topic anybody read "Pale Horse Coming", My second favorite book in the series. Anyone else ............ What was your favorite swagger book? |
