L' Ultimo bacio Also known as the movie that Zach Braff ripped off and shat on. A billion times better than the American version of "The Last Kiss." Romantic Comedy/Drama for dudes about a group of 30yr olds who find that they aren't happy with their perfect lives and begin to look for happiness elsewhere. Malèna An Italian film about love, war and redemption. The prettiest woman in the town and the young boy who is obsessed with her. Her husband is killed in WWII and she has to pay the rent. Her ups and downs are watched by the town’s boys as they go through the war dreaming of life with Malena. Nominated for 2 Oscars and starring the beautiful Monica Bellucci. Ran Samurai version of Shakespeare's King Lear and one of the bloodiest movies of all time. Caché A very dark French film in which a family tries to figure out who has been video taping their lives and sending them the tapes. The main character must confront old demons even though he isn't sure if they have anything to do with the tapes or what the tapes are ment to do. Shows how simply not knowing something can drive you to do crazy things. Plenty of great twists and surprises and a very graphic ending with a scence that even made me cringe. |

All of the Akira Kurosawa movies. And the best of them all... Yojimbo (1961)   Sanjuro, a wandering samurai enters a rural town in nineteenth century Japan. After learning from the innkeeper that the town is divided between two gangsters, he plays one side off against the other. His efforts are complicated by the arrival of the wily Unosuke, the son of one of the gangsters, who owns a revolver. Unosuke has Sanjuro beaten after he reunites an abducted woman with her husband and son, then massacres his father's opponents. During the slaughter, the samurai escapes with the help of the innkeeper; but while recuperating at a nearby temple, he learns of innkeeper's abduction by Unosuke, and returns to the town to confront him. Now that's a movie. Another great movie is the original Zatoichi from 1962 with Shintaro Katsu. |

Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor)--Russian 2004 Among normal humans live the "Others" possessing various supernatural powers. They are divided up into the forces of light and the forces of the dark, who signed a truce several centuries ago to end a devastating battle. Ever since, the forces of light govern the day while the night belongs to their dark opponents. In modern day Moscow the dark Others actually roam the night as vampires while a "Night Watch" of light forces, among them Anton, the movie's protagonist, try to control them and limit their outrage. Good bye Lennon ~ German, about how people handled the fall of soviet Germany, drama/ comedy Der Unter ganan (SP) ~ The Downfall, about the weeks before the fall of Hitler from hiltlers point of view, very good movie if not slightly disturbing. 9 iron, Asian Drama, almost no spoken language, won several awards for its near silent style Der Edukators ~ German, comedy, about a young man (lead character from Good bye lennin) who stays in rich peoples houses while they are on vacation, hilarious. Knocking on heaven's Door ~ German, comedy, with several American cameo's and staring Till Schweiger, a young man dying from cancer meets another young man who was told he has 3 weeks to live, robbery drinking and strip joints ensue. Ong BoK, Thailand, action/martial arts, Main character is a young monk who must travel into modern society to confront the thief who stole their villages shrine God Bok, a friend tricks him into entering an underground fighting ring to win the randsome, amazing martial arts movie mainly featuring Mui Tai, the first movie for the main character who later starred in the Protector. |
