'STALINGRAD', made by the same German Production company that made 'Das Boot". The best scene in the movie is when the last JU-52 loaded with wounded is taking off from the Airfield in a Snow Blizard, a Feldjamarne(German Military Police) has to cut down alott of his own wounded guys with a MP-40 becuase they are panicking and try to swamp the plane, becuase they all know it will be the last plane to leave and no more will come back becuase the Soviets are only a few miles away from over running the last Airfield. The Urban house to house combat scenes are cool as heck too. There is even a scene where there doing hand to hand combat in the Sewers below the City. The Tank Battel scenes are awesome. Very good Movie, I highly recomend it and it ranks up there with 'Saving Pvt. Ryan' with the realistic Combat scenes. Find the English dubbed version if you can. |

Great movie, however, I am disappointed in one thing... Typical German we have to be the bad guys mentality... Instead of just showing the experiences of a Rifle platoon and the misery that was Stalingrad, they had to work in the Penal Battalion story, and the asshole "kettenhunde" (Chained Dog) MP Hauptmann (they really were douchebags...and generally hated by the Landsers (Soldiers)). And of course the firing squad to get their shoulder boards back..... But a great movie for anyone into studying the Wehrmacht in WWII.... |
