I don't think he was fat.  I think he just had a very big heart.

SCTV was full of talented people.

Fuckin' A, right!

BTW, on a somewhat-unrelated note, I always wish he would come out with his own candy bar......... you could call it John Candy Candy, or something like that.

I loved the character he played in The Volunteers. Tom Tuttle from Tacoma! But my all time favorite Candy acting job was his job in the movie Splash. That was him at his best. Uncle Buck is my third favorite John Candy job.

I get it.  Funny thing is the name came about because I once introduced myself as Jim Morrison and this girl didn't get the joke.  One of my buddies tells her who it was and later she makes reference to JM as being "some dead fellow".  The name kinda stuck.

I should try to see more of them... Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains & Automobiles are my top favorites. And I feel the need to comment that even though his movies were mostly (if not all?) comedies, the ones I've seen had an element of sadness...

Nevermind the director, but Canadian Bacon has to be the greatest political satire of our generation. You must see it at least once.

He also did some great schtick on SCTV, if you were willing to stay up 'til 0100 hours to catch it on NBC back in the '80's early Sat morning.  My brother & I never missed it.

i liked all his stuff.  he will be missed for a long long time, and it will also be just as long before anyone ever comes along that comes close to replacing his talent.  i always liked that he could be funny as hell but didn't have to resort to using the F bomb every other word to do it.

i wish they would show some of those old SNL shows on late night.  i also heard he was a good guy

I have to say "Only The Lonely" (which thanks to Gunny I now know the name of as I always used to catch it on sunday afternoon TV)

Some classic scenes.
- Picnic in Comiskey Park
- Proposal on the fire ladder
- Dinner disater

Great movie. It also highlights the fact that Candy was a fantastic dramatic actor. His cheery fatness made sad moments even more heartfelt.

Candy was great in every role he ever had, from comedy to drama, cartoons to SCTV. He was a natural. We don't have enough people in Hollywood like him. If any these days.
