A stray comment in another movie thread - one suggesting that Shaun of the Dead may be kind of like a cross between Dawn of the Dead and Office Space - got me to thinking about this... The movie industry is now 100+ years old and my M-I-L is always making comments about there being few (or no) original ideas in TV or movies anymore. In a way, most new films have elments of (and in some cases are complete take-offs on) previous movies. I'm talking about influences here, not remakes or sequels. So... all you movie buffs outthere, what movies do you think of or describe in terms of combinations of two or more prior movies. In other words, let's play Movie Mathematics ® !!! I'll start: Fahrenheit 451 + The Matrix = Equilibrium |
IMHO it's the overall style, tone, setting, fight-choreography, cinematography, etc. much more than the stories (which I agree bear very little resemblance) that draw these comparisons between the two. |
Well, in that case Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon + Tron = The Matrix... or Twin Warriors + The 13th Floor = The Matrix. |
