I'm behind the times on a blu-ray player.
I cut the cord a few years ago, and I've been using various streaming services for the movies and tv that we actually watch. However, I still want/need to purchase some DVD/blu-ray media, but I do not have a blu-ray capable device. What is the best bang for buck blu-ray device at the moment? Also, I'm willing to pay a little more for something that boots/loads quicker. I'm not a gamer, but if a PS3/4 is a viable/worthy option then my nieces and nephews would appreciate that when they visit. Thanks! |

Any others? All the cheaper models have various limitations or issues. More expensive models aren't worth it. Unfortunately the step down model from samsung is no longer available, which is a shame because it offered everything that mattered from the higher end model for significantly less. I suppose you could call crutchfield and ask if they have any left. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_305BDH5900/Samsung-BD-H5900.html?tp=171 |

Go to Newegg and get a refurb PS3. They do sooooooo much.........blu ray player, connect to teh' interwebs, view pics, play games, play all sorts of different files (avi, mp4, etc). I have had a PS3 for years and could not imagine my system without one. Don't hold a candle to modern blu-ray players for blu-ray playback. |

Depending on your TV and budget, I'd recommend this 4K UHD Blu ray player which is due to be released March 28, 2016. You will need a 4K TV (most new 2015 TV's are 4K now) and something with at least a 50" screen to appreciate the dramatic increase in resolution over regular Blu ray. A number of 4K UHD movies are being released already. I just received Sicario and Salt on 4K UHD Blu ray and am waiting for the player to be released at the end of the month. Dead Pool on 4K will be released in May. Beware of Blu rays listed as "mastered" from 4K. These are just regular Blu rays.
If you invest in Blu ray instead of 4K UHD Blu ray, it will be like getting a dvd player and dvd movies just when Blu ray players and movies were being released onto the market. The increase in resolution and depth of colors is the same type of advancement. And, don't be fooled by Blu ray players claiming 4K upscaling. That is not the same as a true 4K UHD player, and does not have the same higher resolution as true, non "upscaled" 4K. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A9V6OI6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/search.php?action=search&videoresolutionid=2683&sortby=releasetimestamp http://www.blu-ray.com/deals/?category=bluraymovies |

Most helpful! I wouldn't worry about that. In 2-3 years the price of those blu-ray players will be comparable to the cost of standard blu-ray players today. Easy enough to upgrade down the road when you get a 4k tv. |

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/149-blu-ray-players/ PS3s can not bitstream content they only use a PCM stream. That probably does not matter to 90% of people. |
