I rented The Foreigner yesterday. It was pretty good. Jackie Chan plays a Chinese restauranteur in London whose daughter is killed in a bombing by some IRA faction. He starts leaning on and threatening a Gerry Adams-type former IRA politician played by Pierce Brosnan, in an effort to get the identity of the bombers who killed his daughter. Jackie Chan turns out to actually be a South Vietnamese former soldier trained by the Green Berets.

Small Town Crime, recently made Redbox straight to video movie.

An alcoholic unemployed ex-cop discovers a near-dead young woman on the side of the road in a small California town. She turns out to be a local girl turned druggie/hooker, who dies after he brings her to the hospital. The ex-cop poses as a private investigator and is hired by the dead hooker's grandfather to find the killer.

Pretty good competent indy movie from first-time director/writers. Good acting from some actors you'll recognize. If you like private eye type movies, you'd probably like this.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

a very dark comedy/drama.
A grieving mother tries to stir up trouble for the small town sheriff's dept when no one has been arrested
for the death of her teenage daughter.

well done movie, received a lot of Academy Award attention.  Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell both won Oscars.

Ready Player One.

Man was I nervous about this one, I love the book but wasn't sure they would be able to bring it to the screen and Spielberg being involved did not calm my concerns.  Bottom line - I enjoyed the hack out of it, even went back to see it again and I never do that.   Yes, they changed several things from the books but I get why and the vibe of the book remained.

If you are a fan of the 80's go see this movie.

Hostiles

a US Army Calvary Indian fighter has to escort a Chief and his family from New Mexico to Montana.
A lot of trouble happens along the trek, and it brings out all the character's humanity toward each other.
The film was good overall, scenery shots were great.

stars Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike, and Wes Studi.

‘The Mist’.

Holy crap, what a good, yet total mind-fuck of a film. Frank Darabont is an awesome director and writer, and one can only imagine how ‘The Walking Dead’ would have turned out if he’d been allowed to stay on past season 1.

a couple of classics,

The More the Merrier (1943)

there's a Washington DC housing crisis during  WWII and a single woman decides to rent out her spare room.
classic comedy starring Jean Arthur.

The Big Country (1958)

a classic sweeping western epic.
A retired eastern sailor 'dude' moves out west to marry his sweetheart and gets involved
in a water fueled range war between two land baron ranchers.
a lot of big name actors in this one; Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston, Chuck Conners,
Burl Ives, Jean Simmons and Carol Baker.
a big star of the film is the scenery shots, looks great on Blu-ray on the big screen.

finished the latest season of Bosch

thought it was going to be a slow, boring story line than half way through - BAM plot twist that really flipped the script.

seems like the final scene could be used as a series finale.  I hope not, it's a really good cop series

Who's Minding the Store? (1963)
Jerry Lewis as the bumbler in love with the department store heiress (he doesn't know who she is)
typical fairytale style romantic comedy that was made at the time, Saturday afternoon matinee type stuff.
always brings a smile to my face.
