| Did anyone go to see this? Was it any good? Based on the preview, it looked to be non-stop, one explosion after another. |

Got a good review today online. The reviewer said it featured real destroyer tactics as well as having good character development and some humor. If I can find it again, I'll link it.

**Mild spoilers ahead** I enjoyed it, but even as someone with no real knowledge of US Navy operations, I felt like there were enormous liberties taken with actual naval tactics and shipboard procedures. For instance, regarding the water-displacement tactic that was used, I presume that even if that ability exists, it was grossly oversimplified for the audience. Additionally, I find it hard to believe that the acting captain of a ship would be the first guy in a stack with an M-4 when it is time to repel the alien boarding party. However, the battle scenes were still awesome, and it is very much an "America! Fuck Yeah!" kind of film. Particularly once it's go-time for the USS Missouri. Also, the battle next to the Hawaiian coast at sunrise was very cool. I think it is worth watching, but I presume that actual US Navy personnel will spend the entire film rolling their eyes. It's still good to see them getting some screen time though, since the past decade has seen the Navy get very little attention from Hollywood other than (of course) the SEALs and naval aviation. |

Quoted: The wife and I saw. It was very entertaining. There a huge number of WTF moments. The first being how a guy who is arrested for breaking into a stop and rob to get a girl a burrito is suddenly a Navy LT in the next scene. The next scene took place seven years later, although that isn't explicitly stated. The satellite signal was turned on in 2005, same time as the bar scene. The rest of the movie takes place in 2012. |

It was alright. Just check your brain in at the door.
Character development was horrible. I really didn't care who lived or died. Couldn't tell you any of the characters' names. Blonde in it was smoking hot. Action was decent. The whole battleship thing was completely unrealistic. |

Yeah, totally missed that. Still doesn't explain how a felon became a Naval Officer with a clearance. Its okay, it was just a movie. Quoted: I guess I'm the only one who got a lump in their throat when the Old Vets started appearing to take their girl in to battle one last time. Nope, that got to me too. The wife actually started crying. It was very cool to see them come walking down the deck. |

Well, the movie glosses over it, but I assume that since he woke up the next day at his brother's house, he was only charged with a misdemeanor, and his brother helped smooth things over with the store owner and the cops. You are right though, it is a pretty significant plot hole. The scene where the old vets started showing up on the Missouri was pretty cheesy but nonetheless emotional. |

Saw it today: It's worth a matinee ticket. Rihanna doesn't ruin the movie in the least. Some of the battle tactics are a bit... Hollywood. Duh. The Army guy kicks ass. It isn't really all that similar to Transformers since the alien machines don't really change shape or act like big robots. The animation technology is very similar, however, and really, the shredders are cool. The old sailors volunteering to fight seemed to stir up some dust in the room. m |

I thought this movie was great! Good, good fun! Oscar worthy? No. Fun? Yes! Those big guns firing on the Missouri were awesome!
I just wish Hollywood would get the sound right for the mini guns on those Zodiac boats! I want to yell at them, watch a fucking youtube video at least!!! Better yet, go shoot one!

Saw it yesterday. Don't go expecting realism or a plausible story, it's got neither.
But it is a patriotic, gung ho, America kicks ass, movie. Picture a point blank broadside engagement with the USS Missouri firing everything it has. I will be buying it on DVD. And I predict it's going to help Navy recruiting a bunch. |

Real destroyer tactics? Who is the fucking idiot who penned that line of bull shit? Apparently, the movie had support from DOD, which means they reviewed the script. There was a US Navy Officer on set to give advice. Not exactly a "Blackhawk Down" film. The DoD and DoN doesn't review the film for tactical accuracy. They review the script for its portrayal of the US military. The officer on set gives advice, not orders, and is usually there to get things like uniforms and lingo right, when asked. The desires of the filmmakers come into play here. Blackhawk Down was meant to feel and look real. Battleship was meant to be a summer alien invasion blockbuster, realism not required. |

If you tell me Rihanna dies I'll Redbox it... otherwise I don't even care enough to do that. On a side note.. I just watched "SyFy's "Dream Machines" where they make the "Battleship Shredder"... I'm not Peter Berg, but if I was my reaction would have been "What the fuck morons? It's one ball... not a ball with two balls in front of it to steer it... get this piece of shit out of my site." Those guys are morons... as is what seems to be the case with all of these fabrication businesses where they have nothing but fuck up after fuck up. No wonder they always work right to the last minute and barely squeak by with a finished product on those kind of shows... unless that's part of the drama created just for the show. |

Just saw this yesterday. These were my after movie thoughts. Also when the F-18s showed up...the first one dropped bombs really low, the 2nd flew even lower through the frag from the explosions. That one would be full of holes. |

I'll redbox it, just to see this guy kicking some alien ass... http://cdn.eurweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/gregory_d_gadson2012-med.jpg http://wp.patheos.com.s3.amazonaws.com/blogs/tinseltalk/files/2012/05/0606798_44384_MC_Tx360-e1337699178907-300x284.jpg http://opionator.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/gregory-gadson-without-the-benefit-of-cgi.jpg You can keep Rhianna; I'll keep the REAL hero in the movie. ![]() The old Navy vets was a proud moment for me. The scenes with the wounded warriors and the LtCol losing himself caused some emotions with me. It was a decent movie. Not the best, but Hollyweird fucks up a lot of cool ideas. I would have like to seen more of the motive from the aliens. Maybe they need another planet, resources....I'd like to see something different then these reasons. It did have an Independence Day feel...especially when the wounded alien placed his hand on the Lts face. |

Not exactly a "Blackhawk Down" film.
