Solved problem with old Bose CineMate by replacing it with a Yamaha HTS. Had remotes for TV, cable box, DVD, Roku, & AVR. Got a Logitech Harmony One. AMAZING! Controls all of my devices, sets proper inputs, remote buttons work like the ones on the original remotes for each device (or can easily be tweaked to do so), even shuts off unused devices when switching to different mode, all with the push of one touch-screen button. Even mutes TV speakers when switching to HT speakers. Any problems are easily solved by the remote menu or the online programming site. Set up super easy as is tweaking various functions. Was afraid this was going to be one of those things whose claims and reviews were "too good to be true". The Logitech Harmony One is every bit as good as they say! Even better, the wife, kids & visiting elderly parents can now operate the system without any confusion or assistance needed. Trying to avoid referring to the LHO as "my Precious"!

This remote is my second harmony in the house. First one is an 880
The 880 is now in another room and the the one is my primary living room remote. I think the Harmonys are overlooked by most but one of the better home devices out there.

Harmony 550 here - it worked from day one, something I cannot say that about almost any other item in my home theater.

Inexpensive

Easy to program

Works perfectly

What more could you ask for in a remote?

I actually enjoy looking for more reasons to "tweak" it! Now have logos (downloaded from internet) for our favorite channels. Activity->Watch TV->Favorites->press logo on touch screen. Done. Way cool!

Hah, funny you should refer to your Harmony as 'Precious'.  I got my mom a Harmony 700 for Christmas and when she opened it I described it as 'One ring to rule them all!

I have a Harmony One as well. Indispensable. My only wish is for a new harmony one with a bit larger of a screen. Does it really need a larger screen? No... But a iPhone sized screen Harmony One would be sweet...

Yup, I've had my Harmony One for a couple years now and love it! Mine is set up for 3 different rooms and the rechargeable battery lasts a loooong time. It's the simplest remote out there.

did you program it yourself?

If you are asking about the Harmony One, you plug it into a computer with a USB cable, then use the software it came with to identify the devices you own by model name. H1 takes care of the rest.

Mine is setup so that 'Watch TV' turns on my AV receiver, Dish PVR, and plasma screen. While it's turning things on, it's also selecting the right inputs/outputs and shutting off those devices I don't need.

Simpler than it sounds...

I hope so because I have been reading about them on a AV Forum and they are going on about all kinds of different codes you need.

I hope so because I have been reading about them on a AV Forum and they are going on about all kinds of different codes you need.
Don't know what codes they are talking about. Like warp_foo said just
write down make/model # of each device you intend to use as well as what
input they need to be set to. Install Harmony One sw on computer. Plug
Harmony One in with provided USB cable. Start an account (no charge).
Enter make/model#'s. Codes installed for you. SW suggests basic
"Activities" for devices you entered such as "Watch TV". For each
activity tell sw what devices need to be on and what inputs they will
use. "Update Remote" and you're done. Mine is set up for:
- "Watch TV": Cable box (pvr) ON, TV ON set to HDMI-1

- "Watch TV2" (I renamed it "Watch Movie"): TV ON set to HDMI-1, TV
audio Mute. AVR ON set to AV-1 input. Cable box ON. (This lets me use
HTS instead of TV speakers).

- "Watch DVD": TV ON, input HDMI-2, audio off. DVD player ON. AVR ON, input HDMI-1. Cable box OFF.

- "Roku": TV ON, Input HDMI-2, audio off, AVR ON, input HDMI-3. Cable box OFF

- "Listen to FM": AVR ON, everything else OFF.

- "Listen to CD": AVR ON, set to input HDMI-1. DVD player ON. Everything else OFF.
Now I just pick up remote, push "Activities" button, push desired
"activity" on touch screen. Remote does all the rest. I'm not a techie
or an audiophile. This was easy and FUN. Some "tweaking" may be needed
but is easy (and fun) to do. If an "activity" is not working right the
"Help" button on remote walks you through a simple trouble shooting
process. Even better, if remote is ever lost/stolen/destroyed when you
replace it just log onto web site again, attach new remote and "Update"
new remote with ALL of your previous settings.
