| Great movie. 10/10. That is all. |

Yep, that's the one. Great fight scenes and excellent acting. The story is compelling too. |

I guess I'l be the guy that goes against the grain on this one.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie and thought it was definitely worth a watch. My gripe, is that they made you feel for both main characters from the start, then 3/4 through the movie they all of a sudden wanted you to hate one character. IF you take out Tom Hardy's character, or hell take out Joel Edgerton's character and have Tom Hardy win it, it would have been a great movie. But instead they built the audience up to sympathize with both characters, then hung one of them out to dry. Hell, if they had portrayed Tom Hardy's character in a dimmer light from the start and given us plenty of reasons to see him as the villain, I would have been fine with that too. Iinstead they wanted us to sympathize with his plight and then change our minds and jump on Joel Edgerton's bandwagon for the last 1/4 of the movie. Another gripe, I'm all for the underdog movie but damn. I mean seriously, Joel Edgerton gets the shit beat out of him for 95% of every match and then in the clutch he suddenly remembers that he's quite possibly the best/most technical wrestler that the world has ever seen. During his fights there was never any real transition, it was always Joel Edgerton getting the shit beat of of him then all of a sudden a flash occurs to him and he remember a secret special technique that no one can resist, BAM he won. Like I said though, I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who has nuts, and some without. |

They should have made him a great fighter who was past his prime, but learned to use his technical skills to overcome younger, stronger opponents. Instead, he was portrayed as a sort of lame former UFC fighter who inexplicably became good out of nowhere. I think they were trying to say that his trainer held the key and if would listen to him in terms of pacing and technique, he could be great. However, they didn't really develop this. As far as Tommy, I didn't know whether to sympathize with him or see him as an unforgiving prick throughout the movie. This may have been intentional on the part of the filmmakers. This aspect didn't bother me, but I see your point.

Tommy was a flawed and damaged man who really only had one redeeming characteristic (bravery). Luckily for him it's the kind of redeeming characteristic that makes a man a hero. We can root for him without really liking him, because we recognize that his character flaws all came straight from his father. |

Saw it in the theater and my wife agreed to come along. On the way out she was wiping tears from her eyes and that doesn't happen at the theater. Great flick. Yeah, those concession prices are enough to make anybody cry. Naw, I smuggle a full bar and candy rack into the theater in her purse. I'll take my bourbon with coke and reese's pieces at Target prices thank you. |
