I'm getting my 63" plasma and do not want to pay $300 for a tech to calibrate.
Does anyone have a Colorvision STV100 Spyder TV Colormeter or something sinilar they'd be willing to rent/loan me. I would pay post both ways with insurance.
I'm also open to any cheaper routes.

Avia and Video Essentials is a great starting point.

The Spyder is a neat tool but it never caught on.  I'd check at the different home theater sites including the Display section of Home Theater Forum where a lot of calibration guys hang out.

GREYSCALE & COLOUR CALIBRATION FOR DUMMIES

Seems to be a commonly referred to "how to" on AVS forum.

I've found AVS forum settings are typically pretty nice.  My old Sony 3LCD (kdf43e or some such) looked great with settings I found on there.

As for the 63" plasma (Samsung PN63C8000) I just picked up, I'm not totally sold on what I've found so far.

I'll more than likely end up with an Eye One and do it according to the above link.
If you have the PN63Cx000 let me know and I'll point you to the specs I'm using currently.

(Yes, I know all sets are different, but it could be a starting point)
