Ok...I'm in.   If you don't have kids, or grandkids you might not understand.

Same here. I've even got "Mater's Tall Tales" just about memorized. My 2 year old is a Cars freak. We got him a Cars Valentine's Day card
that sings the "Life is a Highway" song from the movie. He went nuts! It's pretty funny. Bedspread, sheets, curtains, clothes, racetrack, cups, and plates...........
I'm still bumping in to the giant Lightning McQueen ballon from his birthday last month.

Let's see if I can embed the video of his Cars race track.......

nope....can't figure it out

I'm really glad they're making a sequel.  The first one really left some unasnwered questions.  This is way better than Pixar making a movie with new characters and a new setting.

Merchandise for this one was released before last Christmas. That tell you anything.

Of course, i'm sure i will watch it....about 500 times a year.

Sigh.

Yeah, you'd figure Pixar would of learned not to make sequels after Toy Story 2&3 flopped the way they did...

I don't mind sequels too much as long as its a quality story. But I would of rather seen one for The Incredibles...

I'm not a big Cars fan, but my boys are so I'll end up seeing the next one a dozen or two times.

With Pixar's amazing track record, you're going to give them crap for releasing a sequel? Yeesh

Can't wait.  My house is a Pixar house.  I do a pretty good Larry the Cable Guy imitation, so my kids always make me "be" Mater.

Would you prefer if I gave them crap over the fact that Cars is just fucking Doc Hollywood with anthropomorphic cars?

Yes, I am going to give them crap.  They do have an amazing track record, but I seem to be in the minority here with my opinion that Cars is probably their second weakest effort right after A Bug's Life.  The fact that they do hit it out of the park each time they come up with something new is the very reason I'd like to see something new.  Part of the beauty of animation is the ability to show me something that can't be done with filming live actors in the real world.  They can literally do anything.  To show me something they've already done feels to me like they're kinda phoning it in as far as originality.  When our live-action movies are seemingly nothing but remakes, sequels, and adaptations it just seems like a waste of the potential for giving me stuff I've never seen before.

I agree with tuco for the most part - I love Pixar movies but I just can't get excited over Cars 2. If they had to make a sequel to just about any of their past movies I'd be interested, but they chose the one I am most 'meh' about.

Still, in the end they are a business, and the Cars franchise will sell no matter what. I anticipate they'll be back to their originality and uniqueness next time around.
