Other thread title altered... |
Maybe I was in the wrong mood when I watched it the night before last. It had its moments, but overall it felt pretty "meh" to me. Probably had a lot to do with the "monsters" being something from a C-grade 80s action flick, complete with Power Ranger badguy-movements and sped-up film.

I hadn't heard of this movie, I checked it out because of this thread, and I'm glad I did. It didn't have any "jump out of your seat" moments, but it did a good job of building and maintaining a feel of dread and unease. The sets were excellent, really managed to communicate the vastness of the ship without losing the sense of claustrophobia. Pity it didn't do well at the box office, I would like to see a sequel/prequel.
Spoilers I was a little let down by the end, just because it ended on a hopeful note and I was all set for the incredible downer of the last of humanity lost in space, prey for hideous mutants, on a vessel well past its prime. |

Quite frankly, I think it would have been a much better movie without the monsters. Played straight, as a psychological thriller, I think the film would have worked better. Think about it: recently revived crewmen attempted to save ship. Things keep going wrong. In the end, it turns out... like it did. The monsters were superfluous. What made it worse was I watched it the same night I watched "Moon", which was way better.

Night Shyamalan made Mad Max meets Aliens, with a predictable twist and the only possible outcome from the ending is Jacob's loyalty mission from Mass Effect 2 |

A guy struggling for survival would be alright but the thing is the entire story would probably need to be changed. I thought Moon was alright but sort of boring, definitely not the sort of movie that's entertaining enough to watch twice. (Although it made a good first watch). In a year or so after I've sort of forgotten some of the details of Pandorum I'll probably watch it again. |
