Already immunologically compromised ... Extensive Prayers Needed ..When temps go so high I sit on the side of the tub with my kids feet in cool water almost knee high.... IF that and acetaminophen / ibuprofen dont take the temp down in 30-60 min you need to go to the hospital .. Try to be strong for your son its not easy I know. Prayers sent...... |

Update..
We are back from the ER and they released him.. He has bilateral pneumonia I am a nurse and I don't have a good feeling about his condition... He is fragile but there really was no need to keep him and it is probably safer at home than at a nasty hospital.. He's having a hard time clearing his airway... 6 years old's are resilient but there is only so much a human body can take... |

Did they send him home with a nebulizer and an Albuteral script to help with his breathing? Or do they still do that? |

Wait, he was sent home with bilateral pneumonia? I am not a pediatrician, but don't they hospitalize and treat with IV antibiotics, especially because you said he was already immunologically compromised? They did send him home and the ideas behind it was that it was cleaner at my home than the hospital.. He received IV Rocephin and was sent home with Augmentin Liquid po Bid.. He still is not doing very well so please for those who pray..Please continue to do so! It has been a long week... |

Watch his respiratory rate and activity level.
If he can sit up and take fluids on his own, is interested enough to watch TV or some other entertainment, and interacts something close to normal, he's probably doing OK. If he has retractions (using his abdominal muscles to breathe or his abdomen under his ribs sucks in when he breathes), or just can't get comfortable or sleep, he needs to be rechecked. You can use the albuterol neb as often as every 4 hours. The fever is harmless, but ibuprofen 10mg/kg every 6 hours will help him be more comfortable. His Dr. needs to eyeball him tomorrow. Hang in there. (I'm an Emergency Physician for 18 years.) |
| Not a doc, but I've had pneumonia, allergies, bronchitis, collapsed lungs, etc plenty of times. Do you have any air purifiers? Don't know how much it would help, but it should keep the big stuff out of the air. When I had pneumonia, I set up one in my room and ran it all day and all night. It was much easier to breathe when the air is cleaner. Then again, my pneumonia was due to allergies, so the pollen was causing it. I don't know if it would work in this case, but it won't hurt to try. |

For all those who offered prayers...THANK YOU! My son is better and will be going back to school on Monday...Hopefully we can keep him healthy for the rest of the school year.. God Bless you all! And God comes through once again. I'll keep praying that he doesn't get sick. I don't know much about medical stuff, but it can't be good if you have a weak immune system. |

God Bless you all! I'm so sorry I missed this thread until now. I'll send a prayer up for him anyway, and pray he remains healthy and strong. |
