We got any other Deists around here? Just saying Hi...If you guys want a good read about the general beliefs, check this out. www.deism.com |
| I have always found the thoughts of Deists very interesting and enlightening. Most of the problems that I have with 'religions' are the people. I suppose that I lean more toward this than anything, but find it hard to discount much of what "I" have learned, and not been spoon fed by those 'in the know'. I will have to study more.... Plate is full, but give me another helping! LOL Just working on the 'boring' "Apocrypha" now. |
Uh oh. Sorry to shut this down, but I really do find this topic interesting. My only problem with Deists is that they seem like MENSA, a little too sure of themselves. I am also wondering why the web link has Thomas Payne, but not Ben Franklin as a prominent Deist? I'd probably find him if I looked further. Anyway, I am a recovering something that was raised as a Lutheran in the Midwest. God is there, no doubt, just not sure we insignificants know the right. Yeah, I am a work in progress!

![]() Howdy! Sorry I just haven't dropped by the religion forum for a while. There's a few other Deists as well -- I recall that Doctors308 is another one of us. I think he's more of the classical Clockmaker/clockwork school of Deist thought (he calls the Creator "He"), and I'm more of a Vedantist Creator-in-creation type Deist (I call the Creator "It"). Anyway, arfcom has several other known Deists, and a lot of people who are Deists... but they just don't know it yet. Around here, we Deists are both well-represented, and well-respected. We have a great tradition to uphold here. Just like the early Deists who helped to found our nation, we look for commonalities with our fellows who value our freedoms, and who are people of faith, instead of seeking out differences over which to quibble. Come to think of it... that's kind of why I haven't been hanging around the religion forum much lately. I just don't see so much to argue about. And I prefer fellowship to dispute among those with whom I have so much in common during perilous times. ie... We have a socialist running for president, and I'm going to argue theology??? |
