5. Biblical Robe Produced For Use by High Priest in Holy Temple

By Ezra HaLevi

After much hard work and research, the Techelet (azure blue) robe of the High Priest has been completed by the Temple Institute and it is hoped to be fit to be worn in the Third Temple.

The blue coat, or me'il techelet as it is called in the Torah, sports 72 golden bells alternating with 72 pomegranates attached around its hem, woven of blue, purple, and scarlet wool.

The project was researched and undertaken by skilled artisans over the past three years. It will join the already completed ephod and choshen (breastplate), featuring the 12 precious stones associated with the 12 tribes of Israel. They are located at the Temple Institute in Jerusalem's Old City, and it is hoped they will be found fit to be used by the High Priest in the third temple.

Master weaver Yehudit Avraham wove the robe using the Navajo "two-sided" weaving technique. The Techelet dye used is the most widely accepted of the blue dyes thought to be the Biblical Blue.

The commandment to make such a robe appears in Exodus 28: 31-35: "And you shall make the robe of the ephod entirely out of blue wool. Its head-opening shall be folded over within it, its opening shall have a border all around of weaver's work - it shall be for it like the opening of a coat of mail, that it should not be torn. And you shall make on its hem pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet wool, on its hem all around, and gold bells between them, all around; a gold bell and a pomegranate, a gold bell and a pomegranate, all around. It must be on Aaron in order to minister. Its sound shall be heard when he enters the Sanctuary before Hashem and when he leaves, so that he not die."

"This is the first robe woven entirely out of techelet in nearly 2,000 years," Rabbi Chaim Richman of the Temple Institute told Arutz-7. "Next week we shall begin to observe the holiday of Chanukah, which marks the rededication of the Second Temple in the days when the wicked King Antiochus rose up against the Jewish people with decrees meant to separate them from G-d and His Torah. Chanukah also marks the day when the original desert tabernacle was completed. Our sages emphasize that every year on Chanukah, when we kindle the festive lights, there's a sublime illumination of holy light that is released into the world - a continuation of the original hidden light of creation and a spark of the light of the holy Menorah in the Temple. Above all, Chanukah is the time of miracles and thanksgiving to G-d. The completion of this sacred garment marks a great step forward towards the renewal of the Divine service in the Holy Temple."

In the near future, the Institute plans to embark on another major project: the production and supplying of the Torah-specified white garments of the ordinary priests for every male Jewish descendant of Aaron. "Every Kohen from all over the world, will be given the opportunity to register and order his own uniform so that he can be ready to serve in the rebuilt Holy Temple," Richman said.

Curious, how does someone go about proving they are a descendent of Aaron?

thanks for posting this, how far along are the plans to rebuild the temple?

Perhaps Neshomamench can shed some light on this as I am clueless on this.

We visited the Temple Institute two years ago and were amazed at the number items they had produced.

Ed got it, There has been a world wide DNA study on Jews who claim to be Cohens. It finds that They are indeed related with a common ancester...pretty cool.

it also uterly destroys the White power/Christian identities arguments they make about themselves and the claims they make that all Jews are mongrolized Khazarian stock. This is one of there "most perfect truths" when it comes to discredeting Jews.

As always, Judaism is a religion, not a race. How can you be a race when you allow anyone to enter into your marriage group. However, the bloodlines that need to be preserved, have been and the studies of Cohens around the world prove it.

they try this just about every year.

no one knows for sure which fish to get the right color from, though there is a majority opinion, its not conclusive nor would it be accepted for use in a future temple.

BUT some orthodox jews do use what most think techelet is on their regular fringed garments that we wear all day under our shirts.

Not that it affects the commandment to wear them and by wearing the tchelet some are right while those not wearing it are wrong, just a little 'over and above' to show that they're trying hard to follow lette rof law which says fringes should have tchelet.

BUT all jews are absolved from wearing tchelet on our fringes till teh time of temple, so moot point, just done for glorification of the act.

(all of these terms are RELALY weak english translations of hebrew legal terms... no good way to phrase them!)

also, its very easy to prove you're a descendant of aaron. IT's been passed down whether you are a cohen (priest - perform temple service), levi (kind of like temple maintence and caretakers) or yisroel (normal jew)

kohen = son of aron, levi= rest of the descendants of tribe of levi (aaron is from levi, but only his kids are priests), yisroel = everyone else

so if you are a kohen (last name usually Cohen, or Katz which is really an abbreviation of two words kohen tzeddek = "righteous priest" - K+TZ = Katz) then you are a son of aaron, no doubt about it. categorization is passed down paternally too by the way.

AND, these people making all the 'tools' for the temple are viewed by most orthodox jews as just wasting their time. None of this can be used as the world exists in a state of impurity now and nothing made in such a state can be used in the temple. For example, they made a menorah to perfect specs. I saw it guarded by more people than the PM when I was in isrrael, proably 3-4 tons of pure gold. BUT menorahhas to be made out of one piece of gold jsut like aaron did and it's impossible for the hands of man to do it that way in the correct fashion.

ALSO the tools and clothes from teh temple were not detroyed nor could they be for that matter. all of my people know where they are and when the time comes we'll just bulldoze the vatican and get it all out of the basement. not kidding bout that.

ETA: thes people aren't doing a bad thing. They're not like the whackos who try to get ontot the temple mount to pray once in a while. BUT they are wasting their time and money.

I read that site and the timeline mentioned that Jews are not allowed to pray on the temple mount. I was quite surprised by that.

Is there a reason for it? Political or religious?

They don't know exactly where the Holy of Holies is (was?) and anybody walking on the Temple Mount might step there, which is forbidden.

As to ID'ing cohens, IIRC, in addition their surnames, they carry genetic marker which distinguishes them from other Jews.
