I haven't watched GP much this year, but noticed something "new".  Why are riders sticking a leg out before entering a turn?  It almost looks similar to supermoto, except obviously they are not doing it for increased clearance.  Is it something to do with the 800cc bikes, a balance issue, or what?  I never saw them doing that in previous years.

It is something Rossi started doing a while back and it seems like it is catching on.  He said he doesn't really know if it helps him enter a turn quicker but it feels better to him.  I think if the best in the world is doing it others think it will help them.

Bikes are carrying more corner speed then ever before. Hence another change in riding style of haging so far off the bike. Alot of people are saying it helps move the COG making him wider, wich in theory makes him more stable under hard breaking. Ive also heard its for a turn in aid, dont know if anyone had tried to turn a bike hard at 100+, but its not exactly easy. Others say its to "reset" his foot onto the leg after downshifting, but if you look at videos the Catalunya gp is a good one to watch, his sticking his leg out after he downshifts and is into the end of the breaking zone. Its like when KR started dragging a knee..

...exactly, fun to watch. Those guys have more skill in their shoelaces than I'll ever have. I didn't like Fox's coverage of Laguna, but it was cool to see quali on Speed Sat, and hopefully more fans will see it. Better than CBS last year.
